Welcome to the latest issue of Health and Social Care News East Sussex.

You may have noticed something different about your newsletter this month. That's because we've given it a bit of a spring refresh.

Firstly, we've a wonderful picture of bluebells in Blackbrook Wood near Ditchling. Each month we’ll include a new image from the county we all love. Will you recognise the image from your corner of East Sussex?

Our ‘From the newsroom’ section will continue to bring you the latest news and updates from us and our health and wellbeing partners. This month, with so many Bank Holidays to enjoy, you’re reminded to make sure you have stocks of your medication at hand, and we've included a helpful guide on where to celebrate the Kings Coronation near you.

We’ve also added a section that takes a deeper look at the issues concerning you. This month, to mark Mental Health Week, we’ve looked at the supposed taboo around men asking for help with their mental health – a taboo that is fast disappearing, thankfully.

We hope you enjoy your ‘new look’ newsletter and a May packed with Bank Holiday fun.

Removing the taboos: finding the courage to tackle your mental health

Health in Mind logo

Mental health awareness has come a long way in recent years. High profile campaigns with well-known people sharing their stories have all helped to reduce stigma, leading to record numbers of people deciding to ask for help to improve their mental health.

Yet despite improvements in mental health awareness and more and more people feeling comfortable asking for help when they need it, this is not true for everyone.

There is no shame in asking for help. It’s not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of strength.

You might not even know what is wrong (many people don’t), but just one conversation with the Health in Mind team can be hugely helpful, and be the start of a better future.
