Our latest figures show that 1,170 Ukrainian guest are being hosted in East Sussex under the Homes for Ukraine scheme. A sincere thank you to all in our communities who continue to make these guests welcome.
The guests are at 503 different properties across the county. More than 412 school places have been allocated to Ukrainian children.
We expect another 350 Ukrainians to come to East Sussex under the scheme, so we have welcomed about eight in 10 of all those expected.
As you may know, the Government has said that the 'thank you' payments to hosts (sponsors) will rise to £500 a month after they have been hosting for 12 months (In East Sussex, hosts are already receiving this rate as a winter bonus until March).
Those ‘thank you’ payments will now be on offer for up to two years, so that guests who may not yet be ready to move into independent accommodation can stay in sponsorship for longer where sponsors are willing and able to extend arrangements
We’re here to help both guests and hosts. Please advise them to call or email the contact centre with any questions or concerns, we now have Ukrainian speakers in the team, so we are able to communicate in Ukrainian as well.
If they have a general question about the scheme, if they need help with looking for rented property, guidance on looking for a job, or just don’t know who to ask, their first step can be to contact us and we can help them, or point them in the right direction.
They can email us ukraine@eastsussex.gov.uk or call our helpline on 01273 3237010 (10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday).
Pick Option 1 to speak to someone in English, Option 2 to speak to someone in Ukrainian.
We know people who have migrated from other countries have specific health needs and we'd like to understand more about their health needs and experiences to improve services in East Sussex.
As part of this, we're inviting Ukrainian guests to give us their honest views in an online survey running until the end of this month and available in both Ukrainian and English language versions. It's anonymous and confidential and the results will help our public health team work with providers to assess and improve services.
