A national moment of reflection has been announced for 8pm on Sunday (18 Sep). This will be a one minute’s silence in which all are invited to take part.
The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II takes place on Monday 19 September which has been declared a bank holiday. Schools and most workplaces will be closed.
Leaders from across the world are expected at the solemn ceremony in Westminster Abbey. It will mark the end of an extraordinary life which has been an essential part of our national story for more than 70 years.

Everyone is welcome to add their thoughts or reflections to one of the books of condolence that are now open across East Sussex and online.
The book in the reception area of County Hall in St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes will be open until 5pm on Tuesday 20 September. When closed, the book will be stored at The Keep, the county’s records centre, as a permanent memorial.
Details of other books across East Sussex, and the national online book of condolence opened by the Royal Family, are available below.
This month marks six months since the beginning of the Homes for Ukraine programme and since our first guests arrived in East Sussex. We are incredibly proud that communities across East Sussex have shown such generosity to Ukrainians seeking sanctuary in our County, and we have been heartened to hear many stories of Ukrainians settling in well to life in the UK.
We also know the last six months have been very challenging and uncertain for many of our guests and we know many hosts and guests are thinking about the future and will need further advice and support. We know there is more to be done and we want to reassure you that we are committed to supporting guests and hosts and we are working hard to respond to your needs and concerns.
Support for those on the Homes for Ukraine scheme will continue and there will be more information on further support in the coming weeks.
When claiming Universal Credit, all claimants agree to a legal responsibility of reporting any changes in their circumstances.
If there is a change to your guests circumstances it is very important that they report these changes, as this may affect their access to benefits and there is a risk of committing benefit fraud if changes are not reported.
Changes can include:
- living, moving or travelling abroad (even if just for a visit) or moving to a different address (more info on this can be found 🔗 here)
- starting or finishing a job
- changes to earnings, savings or immigration status
Your guest can report a change of circumstances and view a list of changes that must be reported here 👇
A range of learning support is available for Ukrainians to help them become proficient in the English language. Some helpful courses, resources and discussion groups on English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) are available on our website and cater to all levels, whether your guests are a beginner or advanced.
