The Department for Work and Pensions has provided an extensive guide on the support available for Ukrainians guests arriving in the UK, including information and guidance on National Insurance, Universal Credit, Child Disability Allowance, your rights at work, how to find a job, and CV and interview tips.
The ESTAR Team have a number of exciting opportunities coming up in September to support guests into learning and work. These short courses can be an exciting way to be involved with the community, learn new skills and improve conversational English. These courses include:

For those interested in working in the food and catering sector or just wish to cook great meals with a chef, this course will be based in Lewes but support with travel costs can be provided to attend this course. Guests can come and enjoy this horticulture course that is hosted in local parks and gardens in Eastbourne and Hastings. This course is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, learn something new and connect with nature. It includes a focus on well-being as well as a level 1 certificate in horticulture. Being Our Best Selves (BOBS) π§ββοΈ
This is a four week course providing support for improving access to employment opportunities, self-confidence, mental health and well-being through creative activities. Based in St Leonards, lunch and all materials provided. π Sign up here
Are your guests looking for work? East Sussex County Council currently have a range of temporary jobs available which are managed by Adecco Recruitment who can offer roles within all sectors from Admin to Management roles.
To register their interest in temporary vacancies they can click the link below and fill out the short application. A member of Adeccoβs recruitment team will then be in touch to discuss relevant jobs with them.
An charity offer is available for each Ukrainian family to claim a free bookbox for young children. The box provides age appropriate reading materials, creative activities such as colouring books, paints and pencils, and a free tablet for learning.
To request their free book box for a child aged 5-9, guests can email Krysta at eastsussex@augb.co.uk. A limited number are available.
Guests are reminded that they need to apply for a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) as soon as possible.
The stamp they received on entry into the UK provides evidence of their right to stay in the UK for the first 6 months only. They will need to extend their stay for up to the 3 years allowed under the Homes for Ukraine scheme.
If they do not do this, they will lose their right to live and work in the UK and any benefit payments they are receiving will stop.

Latest figures show that 1,193 guests have arrived in East Sussex under the Homes for Ukraine scheme. Our thanks to every host and every community making our guests welcome.
The guests are at 518 different properties across the county. More than 336 school places have been allocated to Ukrainian children.
The figures suggest we can expect more than 1,627 Ukrainians to come to East Sussex in total, meaning the county has received over 73% of our number of anticipated arrivals.
