Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has caused devastation. Many Ukrainians have fled with few possessions, having to leave behind family and friends not knowing when they will be able to return. People across East Sussex have responded to the crisis with donations, support or by offering to open their homes to refugees. We look at what's happened so far and ways in which you can continue to help our Ukrainian visitors.
How well do you know your local library? You might think of a calm, warm and relaxing environment packed with fascinating, educational, and inspiring books – and you’d be right – but there’s so much more going on behind those doors. From study spaces, adult learning courses, free computers and Wi-Fi, to story time for children... there's something for everyone.
If you want to find out more about your family history online, then things just got a little easier! Baptism, confirmation, marriage and burial records spanning 457 years of Sussex history are now available to search online at Ancestry.
Campaign promotes safe parking outside schools
A campaign to raise awareness of the importance of safe parking outside schools has been launched. The Safe Space programme aims to promote the safe spaces outside schools and highlights why parents and carers should not park on zig zag ‘keep clear’ road markings or on double yellow lines. Major investment in roads and pavements pays off
Highways teams are working hard to plan and repair thousands of additional metres of road and pavements across the county funded from an additional £5.8 million investment. East Sussex County Council’s Cabinet approved additional, one-off funding at the end of 2021 to carry out additional work on top of that covered by the annual £20.4 million highways maintenance budget. Find out more about the investment here.
Funding boost to help support Ukrainian guests
