Social care reform

Fair cost of care review: survey closing date approaching

If you’ve received an East Sussex fair cost of care survey (care homes 65+ and home care 18+), a gentle reminder that it should be returned to contact@careanalytics.co.uk  by 01 July.

This important work will inform the amount of Department of Health and Social Care ‘fair cost of care’ grant money available to us for 2023-24 onwards.

The more care homes and home care providers which respond to the survey, the more accurately we can develop a robust evidence base to improve the sustainability of the local care home and home care market.

You can:

  • check out some frequently asked questions (FAQs) online: East Sussex fair cost of care review.  These FAQs were also emailed directly to providers last week.
  • watch back the online session with Care Analytics, the organisation undertaking the cost of care review on our behalf and analysing the results of the surveys.

Queries about:

East Sussex Registered Care Association (RCA) can offer some support to any providers who may need it to complete the survey. You can email FairCostofCareES@gmail.com or keep an eye on the RCA’s newsletter and website: East Sussex RCA

COVID 19 guidance and updates

Capacity tracker

From 31 July, the Department of Health and Social care (DHSC) will require regulated social care services to provide information on a monthly basis via the Capacity Tracker.

But please note that other organisations - such as local health and social care discharge teams, who also use the information in the Capacity Tracker - will still need daily updates on vacancies. This helps reduce the number of speculative calls you get, and assists to maintain high levels of occupancy.

DHSC says that over the course of 2022/23, continued provider data sharing will be critical to ensuring it has data to:

  • give a comprehensive picture of service, provider and local authority offers
  • provide an early warning where there are pressures in the system
  • aid planning of services

Increased data sharing will also provide a critical underpinning to the case for future Spending Reviews.

More information: DHSC has developed a set of FAQs

Health and wellbeing

National patient safety alert

A national patient safety alert has been issued: that hygiene products manufactured by Vernacare are potentially contaminated with Pseudomonas bacteria.

Vernacare has issued a voluntary recall of all ‘in-date’ cosmetic products which include wet wipes, wash mitts, barrier cloths, bed bath washcloths and shampoo caps.

These wipes should not be used in any health and care settings. There are currently no known cases linked to these contaminated products, but it is being investigated.

Digital social care

NHSX iPads

During the pandemic, NHSX gifted iPads to some care homes so that staff could access remote health consultations and wellbeing services for the people in their care, and to help keep residents connected to their loved ones.

If you have one of these iPads, unless you have bought a new mobile device management (MDM) contract or have made other arrangements, your iPad will reset to factory settings.

On 01 July, when you switch your iPad on it will behave as if the device was brand new out of the box (reset to factory settings) and all information on the iPad will be deleted. The reset will happen automatically.  You will need to create a new Apple ID or log-in with your existing Apple ID to use the iPad and to download apps.

If you need support with this, Digital Social Care has produced a set of FAQS around the iPAD closedown or you can contact the Sussex Digital In Reach team: nada@sussexdigitalteam.co.uk

Data protection and GDPR

Are you confident about the data protection arrangements in your setting? If you don’t feel confident or if you’d like to know a bit more about the subject, DSPT Sussex is offering a webinar on data protection and GDPR.

It’s on 06 July and runs from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.
