Social care reform

East Sussex fair cost of care review

An online question and answer session about the fair cost of care review in East Sussex took place on 15 June, and you can now watch it back on YouTube.

The session was for representatives from older people’s care homes (65+) and home care providers (18+): these are the provider types which the Department of Health and Social Care has included in the fair cost of care exercise.

Care Analytics is undertaking the review on our behalf and analysing the results of the fair cost of care surveys sent out on 10 June.

This work will inform the amount of Department of Health and Social Care ‘fair cost of care’ grant monies available to us for 2023-24 onwards.

The more care homes and home care providers which respond to the survey, the more accurately we will be able to develop a robust evidence base to improve the sustainability of the local care home and home care market.

Surveys should be returned to contact@careanalytics.co.uk  by 01 July.

Any questions?

Queries about:

East Sussex Registered Care Association (RCA) is planning to offer some support to any providers who may need it to complete the survey. The RCA will let providers know about this offer in its next newsletter and information will be on its website: East Sussex RCA

Lifetime cap on care costs consultation

The government added its response (15 June) to the supporting local preparation part of the consultation outcome on operational guidance to implement a lifetime cap on care costs.

Liberty protection safeguards

The latest information on progress towards the implementation of the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) was updated on 14 June with a link to the summary of the LPS national steering group meeting in May 2022.

COVID 19 guidance and updates

Mask wearing

You may have seen that some health care organisations are no longer requiring masks to be worn in certain areas of their setting, or at all.

We would just like to remind everyone that currently, guidance remains unchanged for care settings.

Face masks should be worn by all care workers and should also be encouraged for visitors to care homes, irrespective of whether the person being cared for is known, or suspected to have, COVID-19.

Capacity tracker

From 31 July, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) will require regulated social care services to provide information on a monthly basis via the Capacity Tracker.

DHSC will send information about this directly to providers, along with a set of frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Meanwhile, there are 30 minute training events for people who are new to Capacity Tracker, or for those who need clarification on information they need to input. The sessions will cover how to register and log on, where to update information and how to find additional help.

You would only need to attend one session, and they all start at 2:00pm

Events

Learning disability week

It’s learning disability week.

Organised by the charity Mencap, this year’s theme is ‘living life with a learning disability’.

Mencap says: “We want to show how people with a learning disability are reconnecting with friends and their communities. We also want to talk about the issues many people still face after the end of COVID restrictions, like still having to isolate or dealing with poor mental health and anxiety.”

Locally, you can take a look at our Learning Disability Partnership Board Facebook page to see how the Involvement Matters Team, our reference group for adults with a learning disability, is supporting learning disability week.

The Involvement Matters Team is a group of self-advocates with a learning disability who work together to discuss issues that affect adults with a learning disability. The group gets involved in making services better and making sure the views of people with a learning disability in East Sussex are represented locally and nationally.

We’re always keen to increase the number of ‘experts by experience’, on the group, especially to include and represent people with a learning disability from different backgrounds and cultures.

You can find out more about joining the group and read their easy read leaflet  or contact Jeanette Gallivan-Young: 01273 336 872 or jeanette.gallivan-young@eastsussex.gov.uk.
