Are you interested in a free qualification in Maths, English or IT?
Learning Services offers a flexible way of learning which leads to nationally recognised qualifications in IT, Maths and English.
There are no formal or set teaching sessions; instead adult learners (19 and over) can work at home at a time and pace to suit them, or study at Hastings and Eastbourne Library. Students are well supported by dedicated tutors who work with learners on a regular basis.
If you’re aged 8-13 and you would like to code, you can join our Code Club.
The aim of Code Club is to inspire the next generation to get excited about computer science and digital making. They are free, volunteer led coding sessions. Young people can learn how to code simple animations, games and websites using a variety of coding languages in a supportive environment.
National Storytelling Week is celebrated, 30th January – 6th February. Stories are chosen and are told between the teller and the listener. It's a fantastic way for people to share their own story, or even invent something entirely new - it's also endlessly entertaining!
As well as our weekly storytimes in libraries, we will be hosting some special storytime sessions including dual language, autism friendly and Makaton storytimes.
Listening to stories is not just for kids, there are over 4000 eAudio books available in our fantastic eLibrary.
In a recent survey in East Sussex, 25% of adults said they felt lonely in their local area often or some of the time. Reading Friends, a new befriending programme, aims to bring people together through reading and stories. Adults can sign up as part of our Home Library Service and request visits from a Reading Befriender in their home. The Befriender will bring along some reading material and these will be for you to read together and/or chat about.
There will also be Reading Friends Groups at Eastbourne, Lewes, Seaford and Hastings Library to share stories and meet new people.
Last month we introduced ComicsPlus Children’s Edition, now for all the grown-up sequential art enthusiasts we are launching the ComicsPlus Full Version. The collection is broad, deep, rich, and nuanced and offers choices for both dedicated and novice comics readers. With content from IDW, Tokyo Pop and Kodansha, the Library Journal describes ComicsPlus as probably the strongest manga subscription service available in English!
Download the app from your favoured app store and log in with your library card number and PIN.
