Can you provide a warm welcome in libraries?
Do you want to help others?
Then you can help!
We have a wide range of volunteering opportunities available from researching family history to helping at our children’s events like Rhymetime and Storytime. Not everyone has internet access at home or experience with computers, so we are also looking for volunteers to help people learn a range of skills using the library computers, or their tablet or smartphone.
We are also introducing a new project, Reading Friends. Reading Friends brings people together, using reading to spark conversations and get everyone chatting. You don’t need to be an expert in literature – simply have a love of reading you would like to share to make a difference in your local community.
Whatever time or skills you have, there is a role for you. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and contribute to your local community.
Have you borrowed a winter ghost story? Or a seasonal recipe book?
It may be cold and wet outside, but our Libraries are warm and dry. All our libraries are running their full opening hours. Come and visit a home from home, read the paper, research your family history or just sit and contemplate in one of our comfy chairs.
Remember our eLibrary is always open.
Have you visited one of our Rhyme or Storytimes yet?
Come in from the cold and listen to a story or shake your rattle at one of our Rhymetimes. They are a great way to meet other families in the local area.
During December there will be a special seasonal themed story or rhyme session, just ask at your local library.
We have some virtual Christmassy rhymes to get you in the mood.

In January we are very excited to be working with The Reading Agency and launching a new offer ‘Reading Friends’. Reading Friends tackles loneliness by bringing people together to read, chat and share stories. We will be offering this service to our new and existing home library service customers, giving them opportunity to talk to volunteers in their home and explore reading and activities together.
We will also be starting Reading Friends groups in some of our libraries, to bring groups of people together and share their love of reading.
We are excited to launch the East Sussex Children’s Book Award 2022.
Our book award has been an annual event for the past 16 years. Celebrating the best in children’s literature and upcoming authors, it is aimed at families using the library and all primary schools in East Sussex. Children taking part have the chance to enter competitions, write book reviews, vote for the winning title, and even meet the authors!
