A lack of digital skills and access can have a huge negative impact on a person’s life, leading to poorer health outcomes, increased loneliness, social isolation and less access to jobs and education. If the last two years have taught us anything, it's how vital digital skills are to our wellbeing and safety!
The Library is here to help, we have:
- Free computers and WiFi
- IT For You volunteers ready to help you take your first digital steps
- Accredited IT courses at our Learning Services
- Young People can learn how to code simple animations, games and websites at our Code Clubs
- 1000s of eMagazines, eNewspapers, eBooks and eAudio
If you know someone that may benefit from some support please take a look to see the different opportunities and support available.
Rhymetimes are returning to Bexhill, Hailsham, Hastings and Newhaven!
Rhymetimes are an opportunity to meet other families, sing and enjoy a story. They are great for your child’s speech and language and have a positive effect on the mood and mental wellbeing of parents and carers.
We will be introducing Rhymetimes and Storytimes at more libraries in the coming weeks.
Are you interested in running a Rhymetime or Storytime at your local library? We are looking for volunteers to help facilitate sessions.
Volunteers are a valued and central part of East Sussex Libraries. Volunteering allows you to meet new people, learn new skills and give something back to your local community. Would you like to volunteer for the Library?
To celebrate Black History Month we have partnered with Writing Our Legacy to host creative writing workshops. Come and get tips on how to write your own Sussex-inspired story, whether that’s a true-life story or a piece of fiction or poetry.
Our writing teacher Umi Sinha will give you some guidance to help you get started. Suitable for beginners, open to all levels.
Umi Sinha is a writer, creative writing tutor and oral storyteller. She has taught creative writing at Sussex and Brighton Universities and for the Creative Writing Programme based in Brighton.
Sadly, there are women and girls still having to use makeshift products or miss work or school because they can’t afford to buy period products. Eastbourne, Hastings, Hailsham and Newhaven libraries are offering free, donated period products to anyone who needs them.
We need your help to tackle period poverty, and are asking for donations of tampons, pads, and reusable period products at all our libraries.
We are very excited to support the Hastings Storytelling Festival and present two interactive story and craft sessions.

In a half-term musical treat for children of all ages, the London Mozart Players will present a lively orchestral version of Roald Dahl’s wickedly witty Little Red Riding Hood. This is ideal for 5–11-year-olds but is also a sharply funny and inspiring treat for adults. It’s half an hour of pure magic that never fails to entertain, and a wonderful way to introduce budding musicians to the instruments of the orchestra.
