Library Services in New Lockdown

10 Reservations Free

The new lockdown, designed to slow the spread of Covid-19, will mean that all 17 of the county’s library buildings are temporarily closed for general use.

You can still reserve up to 10 books for free. Using the library catalogue or by calling 0345 60 80 196. You can pick them up from the front entrance your local library.

We will extend your loans during this lockdown so you don't have to worry.

If you need to use library computers to access essential services such as universal credit and internet banking, you can book a session on the above number or online.

Our eLibrary is accessible 24 hours a day and features thousands of eBooks, eAudiobooks, eNewspapers and eMagazines.

The Home Library Service, which has continued to provide books to those who are particularly vulnerable throughout the pandemic, will also remain in operation.

These limited services will be available at all 17 libraries within the current reduced opening hours.  They will be kept under constant review to ensure they are being delivered in the safest way possible.

More information about library services, opening hours and restrictions, is available online on our website or by calling 0345 60 80 196.

Your Own Personal Librarian

Personal Librarian

The new lockdown will be difficult for everyone but for many of us a good read is a chance to escape.

Our Select and Collect service is like having your own personal librarian. You can order online or by calling 0345 60 80 196.

Give us a flavour of the sort of books you like to read and let us do the rest.

We’ll contact you when the books are ready to collect and you – or a neighbour or friend – can collect them at the door of your chosen library.

Bookclub 2021

Wranglestone by Darren Charlton

We are very excited to announce the first East Sussex Bookclub of 2021.  In February as part of LGBTQ+ month we present the Costa shortlisted Wranglestone by Darren Charlton.

Part adventure, part zombie-survival, part teen gay romance, this isn’t some issue based coming out story it’s a thriller and a mystery that just happens to have a gay relationship at its heart.

As a youth Darren said he grew tired of the troubled worlds of Edmund White and Joe Orton when all he wanted was Tom Sawyer to fall in love with Huck, or Luke Skywalker to swing across the chasm with Han.

Wranglestone is that book, part I Am Legend and True Grit. It’s Brokeback Mountain meets Walking Dead!

In February there will be unlimited access to the book on Libby our eBook platform; with no waits and no holds.  There will also be an opportunity to put your questions and feedback to Darren.

If you want to read it sooner, Wranglestone is also available as a paperback.

You can catch up on the highlights of the 2020 Bookclub here.
