Improvements coming to Lewes Victoria Hospital

Lewes Minor Injuries Unit temporarily closed for upgrade works

The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at Lewes Victoria Hospital is undergoing major improvement works to upgrade it to an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).  The MIU is closing temporarily to allow the improvement works to take place.

The improvement work started on 6 November 2019 and is expected to be complete by April 2020. All other services at Lewes Victoria Hospital will continue as normal.

Visit the website for alternative services you can access whilst Lewes MIU is closed, and to learn more about the improvements.

New services for East Sussex’s unpaid carers

Carers across East Sussex can find all the support, advice and information they need in one place thanks to a new agreement which started on 1 October.

Care for the Carers was chosen to continue providing a Carers Centre after East Sussex County Council and the local NHS recommissioned services.

The charity will develop a new single access point for people looking after a relative, friend or neighbour who couldn’t manage without their support.

The Carers Centre offers advice and referrals to other local services, as well as working to reach carers at an early stage in their caring role, and creating carer friendly communities and peer support opportunities.

Find out more about the support on offer and how to get in touch.

As well as the previously available appointments, you can book to be seen from 6:30pm to 8pm on weekdays. Appointments are also available on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.

You can get more information and book one of these appointments by calling or visiting the GP practice where you are registered.

People are being encouraged to take a stand against exploitation by calling out modern slavery. With reports of individuals in East Sussex being exploited and abused increasing, East Sussex County Council urged people to look out of the signs and join the fight.

Modern Slavery can involve a wide range of abuse including forced and compulsory labour, servitude, and trafficking of people for various forms of exploitation. During 2018, Sussex Police recorded 170 Crimes relating to offences within the Modern Slavery Act, 40 of which related to East Sussex.
