Are you living with diabetes? We need your help!

People in East Sussex living with diabetes are invited to an interactive workshop on 30 October, to help develop an online patient record that can help you to manage your health.

At the free event the group will look at the potential benefits and issues with ‘My Health Record’, and you’ll have a chance to share your views to influence how it works.

The event is being run jointly by the local NHS and Diabetes UK. Refreshments will be provided. Book your place.


It’s not too late to end your relationship with smoking

Stoptober. Helping you split up with smoking this October

This Stoptober, smokers are being encouraged to end a bad relationship and split up with smoking for 28 days.

If you’re a smoker, quitting is the best thing you can do for your health and the health of those around you. Stoptober is encouraging you to become part of the movement and join thousands of people who are splitting up with smoking this October. If you make it to 28 days, you’re five times more likely to stay smoke free.

Get support to quit.


Have you had your free flu jab yet?

Children aged 2 or 3, pregnant women, people with long term health conditions and those aged 65 or over should get their free flu vaccine

Having the free flu jab could stop vulnerable people ending up in hospital, or even dying, this winter.

Allison Cannon, Chief Nurse Officer for East Surrey and Sussex Clinical Commissioning Groups, says:  “Flu is potentially a very serious illness, and the flu vaccine is the single best way to protect yourself and help ease pressures on your local NHS.''

Council decision on savings proposals

East Sussex County Council’s Lead Member for Adult Social Care and Health has made a decision on the savings proposals to change how the council provide subsidies for meals in the community, and support for working age adults.

Both savings proposals underwent 10 week consultations and Equality Impact Assessments, which informed the decision.

Review of Public Health

The County Council is also undertaking a full review of the services funded by, and functions of, Public Health. This is part of the broader work of Reconciling Policy Performance and Resources and ongoing development of the Council’s Core Offer.

Recovery Partners is looking for people to join their Experts by Experience network. By joining the network you'll help shape social work education and training, while also developing your own confidence, experience and skills.

Working with people prescribed Dependence Forming Medication (DFM) and supporting those in chronic pain

medication

Change Grow Live, who run the East Sussex Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service (STAR) and local GP surgeries in Hastings recently ran a pilot scheme to support people to reduce their intake of prescribed opiate medication.  

The results were startling in many cases, with people who weaned from opiates reporting an improved quality of life, significant reductions in their levels of anxiety, improved sleep and no increase in pain.
