Brighton in the 1950s and '60s

Brighton & Hove Guide Book

Thursday 27 October, 5.30pm to 6.30pm, an illustrated talk with local historian Paul Jordan

The huge coronation crowd at the Aquarium, the glamorous Promettes greeting visitors on the seafront, theatres, cinemas and, of course, the dance halls where many a romance began! £3 admission, payable on the door, but please book in advance

 

Also coming up at The Keep this autumn: 'The Ashburnam Family', with Senior Archivist Christopher Whittick (15 November), looking at the history of this important local dynasty from their first appearance in the archives in the 1190s, to the death of the last family member in 1953. Memories of the First World War...

Friday 11 November 2016 10am to 4pm

On Remembrance Day, The Keep will be hosting a mini-exhibition of archival material relating to the First World War. Come and see original posters, newspapers, scrapbooks and photographs, together with personal letters from soldiers describing their experiences on the battlefield and as patients in Brighton's military hospitals. Admission free.
