Hull and East Riding Apprenticeship Expo returns
 More than 50 employers and training providers will exhibit at this year’s Hull and East Riding Apprenticeship Expo.
Taking place in Bishop Burton College’s Equine Arena on Wednesday 30 September, it will be open to the public from 3.45pm – 6pm.
The event is aimed at young people in Years 11, 12, 13, as well as members of the public.
Weel Bridge returns after £1m improvement scheme
 Following a vital upgrade and new blue paintwork, the aluminium structure was brought back to the town and was lifted back into place on the banks of the River Hull, at the end of Grovehill Road, on Saturday, 12 September using a 250-tonne crane.
It will now take a couple of weeks for the installation, commissioning and safety checks to be carried out by a team of engineers before the bridge can reopen to the public.
Voices That Influence Team shortlisted for national award
 The council's Voices That Influence Team has been shortlisted for a Children’s Champion Award at the National Children and Young People Awards.The awards celebrate excellence in social care.
The team has been shortlisted for work in championing the needs and rights of vulnerable children. They deliver advocacy, ensuring children understand their rights, can express their wishes and feelings, and are empowered to influence decisions that affect their lives during some of their most challenging experiences.
Three East Riding schools cut costs and carbon with new solar panels
 Withernsea High School, Kingsway Primary in Goole and Marshlands Primary in Goole now have solar panels on their roofs, following a Department for Education grant of £218,000. East Riding was awarded the most of any local authority in the country for the project.
The solar panels are expected to save around £71,000 in energy bills each year, and will decrease emissions by 75,000kg CO2 per year – that’s the equivalent of non-stop driving for 42 years.
Road improvement scheme to be carried out in Holderness
 A major scheme to improve a road between Ottringham and Sunk Island, Holderness, is due to begin this month.
The council is to invest £575,000 to upgrade a length of Sunk Island Road, between the junction with the A1033 Keyingham Road, Ottringham, and Brick Road, Sunk Island.
The project is due to start on Monday, 28 September and is expected to take up to eight weeks to complete, with work being carried out during the daytime.
East Riding Mobile Libraries launches ‘Gym in a Box’ for National Fitness Day
 You can now borrow gym equipment from the East Riding Mobile Library service through the new ‘Gym in a Box’ scheme.
Funded by Libraries Connected, the new scheme will provide gym equipment suitable to use from the comfort of your own home. The aim is to encourage people to try exercising who don’t otherwise engage in exercise, or who want to but don’t have easy access to local resources.
