9 month+, 2 Year and 30 Hours Extended Funding Entitlement
Any parent/carer wishing to apply for either the 9 months+, 2 year funding or the 30 hours Extended Entitlement, must do so before 31st August to claim this from 7th September 2026. Any codes applied for after 31st August 2026 will not be eligible to start until the 2027 Spring term.
Please remember to obtain proof and check the codes for 9 months+, 2 year funding or the 30 Hours Eligibility before accepting a child onto one of these places.
All codes for children already accessing a funded place need to be checked before the term commences to make sure they are valid for the Autumn term.

Community Parent Drop-In sessions
The School and Community Team is pleased to offer a series of Community Parent Drop-In Sessions for parents and carers across East Riding.
These sessions provide an informal, welcoming space where parents can access advice, guidance and support from professionals within the School and Community Team. Parents can discuss concerns, ask questions, explore available services and receive help with a range of issues affecting children, young people and families.
The drop-ins are designed to make support more accessible within local communities, helping families connect with the right services at the right time. Whether parents are looking for information, practical support or simply want to understand what help is available, they are encouraged to attend a session in their area.
Please share details of these sessions with colleagues and families, encourage them to attend if they would benefit from additional support. This could be as part of your involvement ending and a way of parents reaching out if they need more support or as a mechanism of early intervention.

Portage Workshop
Thursday 8th October at 9.30am - 4pm, Thursday 5th November 9.30am - 4pm and Thursday 3rd December 9.30am - 4pm at the Hexagon Music Centre, Coltman Avenue, Beverley, HU17 9LP.
This is a certificated training course delivered by National Portage Association Accredited Trainers.
The Portage Workshop is an introduction to the Portage Approach to working with children with additional needs and their families. The workshop is suitable for early years practitioners who work in an early year’s settings (PVI or maintained), Children’s Centres, Childminders and parents/carers of children who are receiving Portage support.
Central to the course are the ‘Portage Principles’ and the ‘Three Circle Model of Portage’. The NPA has set standards for minimum workshop content and length. The Workshop has a core curriculum consisting of seven modules and must last a minimum of 2 full days plus a Follow Up session.
The workshop is designed to support parents who have children that are being supported by Portage, and practitioners working with children, to help support their learning and development and to understand the strategies and principles used by Portage Workers.

HAF Christmas Grant
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Christmas holidays grant scheme is now launched and ask for your help in spreading the message and encouraging groups to apply. Applications are welcomed from organisations, charities, schools, town and parish councils, faith groups and businesses to provide four-hour sessions and a healthy meal for children and young people in receipt of benefits related free school meals. Organisations can apply for up to £5,000 to deliver fun activities in the Christmas holidays.
Sessions could include sport, play, drama, cooking, crafts, music, healthy lifestyles, art, outdoor adventure or animal experiences, etc. Funding can be spent on management and staff delivery, equipment, venue, food, marketing, capital costs, volunteer expenses and excursions. This year delivery partners will also need to offer paid places on their holiday programmes enabling all families to access activities in the holidays.
The deadline for applications is 12pm on 7 September 2026. I appreciate that this falls around the time schools are returning, and are happy for school applicants to contact me nearer the time to agree an extended deadline.
If potential applicants have an idea they would like to develop, I'd love to hear from them. Support is available to discuss proposals and help in completing the grant application form.

Toilet Training Talks campaign launch

As part of the wider Best Start in Life campaign, the Toilet Training Talks campaign launched on Monday 10 August 2026 to support parents with children starting school this September. Recognising that toilet training can be one of the biggest challenges for families, the campaign provides reassurance, support and practical advice for parents to help their children build confidence and independence before their first day.
The campaign directs parents to the new NHS Best Start in Life 'Potty Training' webpage, with practical advice covering everything from recognising when a child needs the toilet to managing clothing, wiping, flushing and washing hands.
At its heart is a short film, ‘Toilet Training Talks’, featuring Reception teacher Georgia Lucas and TV doctor Dr Emily MacDonagh. Filmed in a primary school toilet, the light-hearted film shares expert advice and reassures parents that progress takes patience and every child develops at their own pace.
You can support the campaign by sharing the film and webpage across your channels. Campaign resources, including a social media toolkit, film assets and suggested copy can be found on the Campaign Resource Centre.
