Dog warden Facebook page launched

The dog warden team has launched a new Facebook page - to more easily enable lost dogs to be reunited with their owners.

Under the Section 149 of the Environment Protection Act 1990, the council has a responsibility over stray and unattended dogs in the East Riding.

The page will have posts that contain photographs of the dog as well as any relevant details. Not all dogs will be posted, so residents are encouraged to get in touch if they have lost a dog.

Destinations team retains national customer service excellence accreditation for 2026

Our destinations team has once again demonstrated its commitment to delivering outstanding customer care by retaining the prestigious Customer Service Excellence Award for 2026.

The destinations team covers Bridlington Spa, Sewerby Hall and Gardens, South Cliff Holiday Park as well as coastal services and countryside teams.

Howden play area to receive accessibility upgrades

A Howden community play area is set to become more accessible and inclusive after The Ashes Playing Field Trust was awarded £40,089 through East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Commuted Sums Open Space Grant.

The grant will support improvements at The Ashes Playing Field on Treeton Road, Howden, helping the Trust deliver a project to install a wheelchair-accessible swing, improved access and seating.

Try something new this September with Adult Learning and Employability

East Riding Adult Learning and Employability are offering Learning for Leisure taster workshops. These workshops include:

• Art
• Photography
• Pottery
• Sewing
• Spanish

Learning for Leisure Workshops are available at East Riding Adult Learning Centres in Beverley, Bridlington, Cottingham and Goole.

Have your say on the new local plan

The local plan sets out the long-term plan for development in the East Riding, containing policies to guide decisions and allocating sites that will provide new housing and employment opportunities. It is the starting point for determining planning applications and guiding investment decisions.

You still have time to fill in the consultation, which is open until Monday, 31 August.

Holiday Activities and Food Christmas holiday grants launch

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Christmas holidays grant scheme 2026 is open.

Applications are welcomed from organisations, charities, schools, town and parish councils, faith groups and businesses to provide four-hour sessions and a healthy meal for children and young people in receipt of benefits-related free school meals. Organisations can apply for up to £5,000 to deliver fun activities in the Christmas holidays.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Monday 7 September 2026.

Beverley to host cycling tour village as part of 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain

The 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain will take place in Hull and the East Riding, on Friday, 4 September.

The Tour Village will take place at the Beverley Westwood from 12 noon - 4pm, featuring family-friendly cycling activities, including live BMX and mountain bike stunt shows, cycle try-out sessions, children's skills tracks, a pump track and freestyle airbag, plus opportunities to learn more about cycling in the East Riding.

Community groups and volunteers will take part in the community ride starting at 12.30pm from Longcroft School down Molescroft Road towards North Bar and to the finish line. Please come along and give them your support. 

ICONIC BRICKS returns to Sewerby Hall and Gardens

ICONIC BRICKS has returned to Sewerby Hall and Gardens. The 17-model exhibition showcases a variety of animals that roamed the earth millions of years ago up to as recently as the 1930s.

Among the collection of animals, some of the standout creations are the Dire Wolf, Sabre Tooth Tiger and the Mammoth skull. The exhibition will be on display until Sunday, 13 September.

Travelling show celebrating the East Riding set to return to the county for the last time

Mikron Theatre is returning to East Riding Mobile Libraries in September with Top of the Wold, a travelling play created especially to celebrate the area.

Walking East Yorkshire Festival 

Taking place from Saturday, 12 to Sunday, 20 September, the Walking East Yorkshire festival will showcase the very best of East Yorkshire, inviting residents and visitors alike to discover spectacular landscapes, fascinating heritage and hidden gems through a wide range of guided activities.  

British Open Darts returns to Bridlington Spa

The British Open darts event, held in conjunction with the Tri-Nations Darts Organisation, will return to Bridlington Spa from Friday, 18 September to Sunday 20 September.

Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) summer programme

There is still time to take part in the HAF summer programme for children aged four to 16 across the East Riding. Free places are available for families receiving benefits-related free school meals or council tax support.

New activities for this year include STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) activities, cricket and axe throwing, alongside a dedicated SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) programme and returning favourites such as trampolining, go-karting and high-ropes at The Edge in Bridlington.
