Celebrating the Lloyds Tour of Britain Cycle Race
Plans are progressing for this year’s Lloyds Tour of Britain professional cycle race. Stage three takes place on Friday, 4 September, with riders setting off from East Park in Hull. They will enter the East Riding through Bilton, before heading out to Withernsea via Keyingham and Patrington. From Withernsea they will continue north to Hornsea via Roos and Garton, continuing up to Skipsea before heading inland to Burton Agnes. They will then progress through Rudston, Langtoft, Driffield and Sledmere, before heading south to the finish line in Beverley.
This is a fantastic opportunity to bring East Riding of Yorkshire and all it has to offer to the national stage.
As part of the cycle race, a funding opportunity has been made available. HEYCA is promoting Mayoral Community Grant funding; a £500 grant open to any town and parish councils on the route that want to get involved and celebrate this exciting event. The closing date for applications is Friday, 21 August.

Affordable housing project underway for East Riding residents affected by coastal erosion
Residents who have lost, or risk losing, their homes to the sea on the East Yorkshire coastline are to be given priority on a new affordable homes project
The new homes form part of the council’s Changing Coasts East Riding project, built by Broadacres via its contractor WB Construction.
The homes are located on the site of former agricultural buildings at Church Farm, around one mile inland from the coast. They will help increase the availability of affordable housing in a rural and coastal area where there is significant need and offer a practical housing option for residents affected by coastal erosion.

Public consultation for new local plan begins
The council has begun preparing a new local plan for the area and has published a timetable for its preparation.
The local plan sets out the long-term plan for development in the East Riding, containing policies to guide decisions and allocating sites that will provide new housing and employment opportunities. It is the starting point for determining planning applications and guiding investment decisions.
The council is required to begin preparing a new plan now due to a new 30-month local plan system announced by the government, which aims to introduce a faster and more streamlined plan preparation process. Once adopted, the new local plan will replace the 2025 Local Plan Update.
The next step in preparing the new local plan is a public scoping consultation which is open until Monday, 31 August 2026.
