9 month+, 2 Year and 30 Hours Extended Funding Entitlement
Any parent/carer wishing to apply for either the 9 months+, 2 year funding or the 30 hours Extended Entitlement, must do so before 31st August to claim this from 7th September 2026. Any codes applied for after 31st August 2026 will not be eligible to start until the 2027 Spring term.
Please remember to obtain proof and check the codes for 9 months+, 2 year funding or the 30 Hours Eligibility before accepting a child onto one of these places.
All codes for children already accessing a funded place need to be checked before the term commences to make sure they are valid for the Autumn term.

DfE - Early Years Inclusive Funding.
As previously shared earlier in the Summer term, the Department for Education (DfE) has introduced a new Inclusive Early Years Fund (IEYF) to support eligible settings in developing and strengthening inclusive practice for children. Eligibility has been determined using the criteria set out in the DfE guidance, which is based upon the number of children and deprivation. This is a one off payment for 2026 – 2027 and will be paid automatically to eligible settings who meet the criteria, there is no application process. This funding is intended to support whole setting inclusive practice and may be used for activities such as staff training, SENCO development, inclusive resources, transition support and engagement with families and professionals.
For eligible settings please look out for this payment within your upcoming funding payments and the expectation is to use the funding to strengthen inclusive practice across your setting, benefiting children with SEND and those with emerging needs. If you are unsure please contact your EYDA / Area Senco who will be able to give further guidance.
In line with the DfE guidance providers receiving an IEYF allocation should keep a record of how the funding has been used to support and strengthen inclusive practice, this may include records of expenditure and receipts, your EYDA or Area Senco may also ask how this funding has been used. Alongside this, to support Early Years Inclusion Panel requests, the Local Authority may also ask for a brief summary of how the funding has been used and the impact it has had on inclusive practice within your setting.

DfE - Early Years Funding Consultation
The Department for Education (DfE) is consulting on proposed reforms to the early years funding system, with responses open until 14 September 2026.
The DfE are seeking views on proposed changes to the early years funding system associated with the current offer of early years entitlements.
These changes to how funding is distributed are targeted at: improving access to childcare for families on low incomes; improving support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in the early years; expectations for the Best Start in Life strategy; and driving greater efficiency, simplicity and transparency in the way funding is allocated, so every penny can work harder for children and families.

DfE - new guidance on screen use
We have published details of the changes to the EYFS statutory framework from 1 September 2026, including updates to safeguarding requirements on the topics of safer sleep, banned dog breeds and screen use.
We have also published new guidance to help you manage screen use in your early years setting and ensure it supports children’s learning and development.
The guidance includes information on:

· screen time recommendations for children aged 0 to 5
· the difference between screen use and screen time
· how to use screens safely and effectively in your setting
· choosing suitable, age-appropriate content
· supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
· working with parents and carers to promote healthy screen use at home
· using screens and digital devices as part of the day-to-day running of a setting

By following this guidance, you can help support children’s healthy development while ensuring any use of screens is purposeful, safe and appropriate.

Help shape Family Hub support
We would like to hear your views about Children’s Centres and Family Hubs and the support they provide.
We have launched a short consultation to understand:
- which centres families are using
- the support and activities you use
- how we can improve the services we offer.
We are also asking your views on a proposal to use community venues, such as schools and church halls, to deliver some of the services. Nationally and locally, Children’s Centres are becoming Family Hubs, providing joined-up services across health, family services, education, childcare, schools and the voluntary and community sector. Family Hubs offer:
- midwifery and health visiting
- family and parenting support
- infant feeding, antenatal and postnatal support
- speech and language
- play, attachment and bonding support.
