Affordable housing project underway for residents affected by Coastal Erosion
 The new homes form part of the council’s Changing Coasts East Riding project, built by Broadacres via its contractor WB Construction.
The homes are located on the site of former agricultural buildings at Church Farm, around one mile inland from the coast. They will help increase the availability of affordable housing in a rural and coastal area where there is significant need and offer a practical housing option for residents affected by coastal erosion.
Community groups encouraged to apply for Do It for East Yorkshire (DIFEY) grant fund
 Applications are open until Wednesday 30 September, or until all available funding has been allocated. A total of £200,000 will be invested in community projects.
Grants of between £1,500 and £5,000 are available to voluntary and community organisations, charities, and town and parish councils, for community-led projects that strengthen local communities and deliver meaningful social impact.
Family Hubs to host free Play and Learn days for families this summer
 Best Start Family Hubs, formally children’s centres, are holding family play and learn days for families.
Activities include craft, sensory play, games, outdoor activities for different ages, from babies to age five, with older siblings welcome.

First public consultation for new local plan begins
 The council has begun preparing a new local plan for the area and has published a timetable for its preparation.
The local plan sets out the long-term plan for development in the East Riding, containing policies to guide decisions and allocating sites that will provide new housing and employment opportunities. It is the starting point for determining planning applications and guiding investment decisions.
Poets from children to care home residents invited to ‘have a go’ at East Yorkshire Poetry Festival
 The High Wolds Poetry Festival, to be held on Saturday 26 September in Bishop Burton, has reached out to residents of all ages, from school children to care home residents.
Hoping to inspire poets of all ages, Festival Director Sarah Mills and the council's Community Engagement Manager Caroline Coath ran an immersive poetry workshop at Nafferton Primary School involving 90 children from Years three and four. As well as younger poets, Festival submissions have been received from poets of all ages, including a self-described ‘octogenarian’ who posted a handwritten submission.
