Sails return to historic Skidby Mill
 Restoration work on Skidby Mill has now been successfully completed, with its historic sails reinstated, marking a significant milestone for one of East Yorkshire’s most cherished landmarks.The restoration programme has now been completed and the four sails have been returned to their rightful place. Now reinstated, the sails will remain stationary and without shades, as the site is no longer a working mill. This approach has been taken to protect the structure and ensure its longevity.
Electric vehicle event happening this month
 The Let’s Go Electric! event will take place on Saturday 20 June, from 10am-3pm, at the Priory Park & Ride site. The event will allow you to explore some of the benefits of EV adoption as well as other sustainable transport solutions. There will be a chance to test drive the vehicles. Test drives will be approximately 10 minutes long, with a designated route for drivers to follow, before returning to the EV pick-up area.
The Big Future: Launch of the Childrens Commissioner's National Survey
 Children and young people in the East Riding are invited to give their views on childhood today, as part of a national survey.The Big Future survey has been launched by Dame Rachel de Souza, for all children and young people aged 0–18 in England. The survey asks about the changes they want to see in their communities, their main concerns, their hopes for the future, and what they think a good childhood should look like, both now and in the future.
The survey closes on 23 October 2026, with findings due to be published next year.
Family Hub sessions supporting families this Infant Mental Health Awareness Week
 East Riding Family Hubs have been shining a spotlight on the importance of building strong, loving connections with babies, as part of Infant Mental Health Awareness Week (Monday, 8 – Sunday, 14 June).
This year’s theme - attunement - focuses on how parents and carers can tune into their baby, noticing their sounds, expressions and needs, and responding with care. These everyday moments help babies feel secure, supporting their early development and emotional wellbeing.
Support Available through the World Cup, for victims of domestic abuse
 If you feel concerned for your own or someone else’s safety during this period, you are encouraged to reach out to the council’s Domestic Violence and Abuse Partnership (DVAP) by calling 0482 396368 or by completing the online DVAP self-referral form.
DVAP provide support for both adult and child victims of domestic abuse, as well as those whose behaviour is abusive and want to change. Support is consent based and confidential meaning information will only be shared if there are safeguarding risks to adults or children or to stop serious criminal offences being committed.
If you need immediate support in an emergency or are concerned for your own or someone else’s immediate safety, please always ring the Police on 999. Alternatively, you can ring the Police for a non-emergency on 101.
Stay safe when swimming in open water
 Drowning Prevention Week, one of the UK and Ireland’s largest summer water safety campaigns, runs from Saturday, 13 June to Saturday, 20 June and is being supported by the council.
You are encouraged to swim only in designated safe swimming areas and to always follow advice from lifeguards.
Safe swimming areas are located at Bridlington North Beach and Bridlington South Beach, between the red and yellow lifeguard flags. There will also be safe swimming areas in Hornsea and Withernsea from Saturday 4 July to Sunday 6 September.
Throughout the week, East Riding Leisure will deliver targeted sessions and activities at selected sites, including Withernsea and Beverley, alongside a wider programme of awareness-raising activity.
