Winners of the 2026 Chairman's Awards announced
 East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Chairman’s Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals, businesses and projects that have made a significant impact on local communities.
This year marks 26 years of celebrating excellence across the East Riding with the awards ceremony taking place on Tuesday, 12 May at Champney Treasure House, Beverley.
National recognition for East Riding’s Outstanding service as Youth Justice Board interim chair visits
 The Youth Justice Board (YJB) for England and Wales interim chair, Phil Bowen, has visited East Riding’s Youth Justice Service to hear about the service’s work with young people and victims of crime.
Mr Bowen spent a day meeting the Youth Justice team, to hear about the ways in which the service supports young people - diverting them away from crime, delivering activities and interventions that are innovative, tailored and responsive to individual needs, and supporting young people to make positive choices.
Sewerby Hall and Gardens wins prestigious Travellers’ Choice award

Sewerby Hall and Gardens, near Bridlington, has been recognised with a prestigious national award, celebrating its continued commitment to delivering outstanding visitor experiences.
The popular heritage attraction has received Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award, placing it among the top 10 per cent of attractions worldwide based on consistently high reviews and ratings from visitors over the past 12 months.
New chairman of the council elected
 Councillor Linda Johnson has been elected as the new chairman at May’s Annual General Meeting. She takes over from Councillor Liam Dealtry.
Councillor Johnson has served as a Liberal Democrat councillor representing St Mary’s Ward in Beverley for the last seven years, alongside being a member of Beverley Town Council. She served as Town Mayor of Beverley (chair of the Town Council) for two years, between 2021 and 2023.
Mental Health Awareness Week

We are proud to support Mental Health Awareness Week. This year the theme is 'take action' and ran from Monday 11 to Sunday 17 May.
Learning is a great way to support your own mental health and we have a range of mental health courses available. East Riding Adult Learning and Employability are offering a Welcome to Wellbeing course, designed to build confidence and discover new opportunities, as well as the opportunity to progress to gain the skills to help others with the Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness or the Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems qualifications.
