Road improvement scheme for Hornsea seafront to begin

The council is to invest £250,000 to repair and upgrade the road and footpath in South Promenade, which has been damaged by the recent, prolonged severe weather and cold temperatures.
The project, which also includes extensive drainage work, kerbing and footpath patching, is scheduled to begin on Monday 23 February and is due to take between six to eight weeks to complete, weather permitting.
East Riding Libraries appoint first Young Poet Laureate
 East Riding Libraries have appointed Elspeth Snelling as the first ever East Riding Young Poet Laureate.
Designed to develop an early-career creative aged 18-25, the Young Poet Laureate scheme appoints a talented poet as an official representative of East Riding Libraries. The scheme will provide six months of artistic development, including three months of mentorship with the current East Riding Poet Laureate, Cassandra Parkin, followed by a further three months under the guidance of the incoming 2026 Laureate.
Young people to vote on Youth Parliament candidates
 Young people have until Friday 27 February to vote on who they would like to represent them as East Riding Youth Parliament representatives.Any young person, aged 11 to 18, who lives or attends school or college in the East Riding can vote on who they would like to elect.
47 young people have put themselves forward for Youth Parliament, each with a manifesto on the issues impacting young people that they’d like to prioritise. Videos of the manifestos are available to view.
Calling Bridlington businesses to join the festive fun with Bridmas Day 2026
 Taking place on Wednesday, 5 August, this year’s Bridmas Day is on track to be bigger and better than ever, and we would like to invite local businesses to take part in the event.
Businesses are being invited to participate by decorating their stores and wearing Christmas attire. They are also welcome to come down to the South Beach to take part in day of festivities.

Beverley Art Gallery acquires work by artist David Remfry
This acquisition marks Beverley Art Gallery’s most significant addition in recent years by a living artist, further enhancing the collection on display inside the Champney Treasure House, Beverley. To mark the acquisition, the gallery will release a film of the In Conversation event from the highly successful David Remfry RA: A Homecoming exhibition in 2025.

Last chance for working households to claim £250 support
 If you’re working and your household income is under £28k–£33k, you may still be able to receive a one‑off £250 payment from the Household Support Fund.
This support is for people who may not receive means‑tested benefits but are still finding it difficult to cover essential daily living costs.
The payment can help with:
- food and supermarket essentials
- energy and heating bills
- other essential household costs
The fund closes on Friday, 27 February, so this is the final chance to apply.
