East Riding supports national call for fairer SEND funding 📢
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is backing a campaign by the f40 group for increased and fairer education funding and reforms to SEND provision.
The f40 group, which campaigns on behalf of 43 local authorities across the country, is running a campaign week from Monday 19 January, campaigning for bold change and additional, fairer funding within the anticipated Schools White Paper and SEND reforms, which will be published by Government this year.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is a part of the f40 group and is the lowest funded Local Authority in the country for SEND. East Riding receives £18 million less funding per year than the average local authority for SEND provision.

Riverside School pupil features on BBC One’s DIY SOS: Gladiators Special 🎉
A young person from Riverside School, Ryan, recently appeared on BBC One’s DIY SOS: Gladiators Special, which highlighted the transformation of the Cherry Tree Community Centre’s youth club in Beverley.
During the pandemic, the youth club space became a vital foodbank, meaning the youth club itself had been operating from a small outdoor gazebo with no electricity, no running water, and limited shelter. The DIY SOS team stepped in to rebuild the centre, creating a safe, warm and fully equipped space where children and young people can enjoy meals, take part in activities and get the support they need.
Ryan took part in the programme, sharing what the youth club means to local young people and why the project is so important.
If you missed the episode, it’s available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Local Offer events in 2026 – connecting with families and young people 💛
Building on the conversations and connections made throughout 2025, the Local Offer team is continuing to visit coffee mornings, drop‑ins, youth groups and community events across the East Riding. These visits help us hear directly from families about what’s working well, where things could improve, and what information or support would make the biggest difference. We also gather the views of children and young people using a short set of accessible questions designed to help them share their experiences.
As we move further into 2026, we’re keen to keep this momentum going. We’re looking for opportunities to attend more activity sessions, parent carer groups, youth clubs and community events where families, children and young people are already coming together. Whether it’s a small gathering or a larger event, we’re happy to join you for part of a session at the start, the end, or for the full duration to chat with families, gather feedback and share information about the East Riding Local Offer.
If you are involved in organising or supporting events like these, or are in the early stages of planning something for 2026, we would really appreciate the opportunity to join you. Please email Emma Gray if you would like to discuss this further.

Are you a parent / carer of a child 0-25 with SEND and want to share your experience and knowledge to help improve lives for families across the East Riding?
Being a volunteer of the Steering Group involves representing the PCF at meetings with the local authority, health, and other external organisations alongside other PCF Steering Group members, attending and helping at EYPCF events, check-in and chats, and workshops around the region.
Clearly time is an important element, our experience shows that those who have children linked into local SEND provision are passionate about getting the best care, not only for their own children, but for others too. So many of the parents who come to us for advice are happy to pass on their own experiences in meetings and in consultations.
