Brown bin collections to go weekly
Weekly collections of brown bins will begin from Monday, 9 February for two thirds of the East Riding – including the Bridlington, Driffield, Holderness, Market Weighton and Goole areas. They will then be rolled out to the remaining third from February 2027 to towns and villages in the Beverley, Cottingham, Willerby, Brough, Anlaby and Hessle areas.
To encourage people to recycle more of their food waste, the council has a number of free starter packs available for people who don’t already have kitchen caddies. The packs include a kitchen caddy and two rolls of caddy liners, which will be delivered to residents' homes for free.

Shape the future of adult social care
We are inviting our residents to share their views on our adult social care services through a new consultation. Feedback collected through the online survey will help shape upcoming adult social care strategies, ensuring services meet local needs now and in the years to come.
The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete and is open until Saturday, 31 January.

Volunteers needed for local street lighting project
We are testing a new way of lighting our roads as part of the exciting Live Labs 2 project. Live Labs 2 is a £30m Department of Transport (DfT) research project, focusing on innovation for decarbonising local roads and supporting the Government’s drive for net-zero target.
The council changed the lighting in some areas so that it focuses just on the footpath, rather than the whole road – and now we need your help to tell us what you think.
The council is looking for volunteers of all ages to take part in a short evening survey at two local sites on Wednesday, 18 February 2026 – Raich Carter Way (near Kingswood) and Hayton Village.
On the evening, you’ll start at one of the locations, be taken to the other by transport we provide, and then returned to where you began. As a thank you, everyone who comes along to help us will receive a One4All shopping voucher worth £50.
Your feedback will help shape how roads are lit in the future – not just here, but across the UK. It could even influence new British Standards for street lighting.
