Essential road repairs to be carried out across the East Riding
A series of essential repairs are to be carried out on key A-roads across the East Riding from this month.
We are investing around £250,000 in a programme of short-scale road works to upgrade surfaces at sites in Bainton, Fridaythorpe, Goole, Stamford Bridge, Howden and Driffield.
Work is due to begin today, Friday 19 September and continue until late October, weather permitting.
Market Weighton Secondary School expands specialist SEND provision
The Market Weighton School now has 40 commissioned pupil places within their Enhanced Resource Provision (ERP), for children with autism and cognition and learning needs. The school was previously commissioned for 25 ERP places, but due to demand had an intake of 32 pupils over the previous two years. The secondary school has been recognised for its outstanding inclusive practice, being awarded the Most Inclusive Practice across a school in the National SEND awards last year.
Rural homes and businesses receive improved broadband through Project Gigabit
Broadband supplier Quickline has been awarded contracts worth over £300 million to provide improved broadband in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, including up to 25,000 rural premises in the East Riding. Currently, work is ongoing in some of the region's most rural areas, such as Holderness and the Wolds.
The iconic sails are returning to Skidby Mill
The mill officially closed for restoration in 2020, following the approval of a comprehensive restoration plan. Following a period of preparation to ensure all conditions were right, the eagerly awaited restoration work has begun and the sails are due to return later this year.
Careers on Wheels bus inspiring future generations across the East Riding
Through the Careers on Wheels initiative students have been diving into the world of adult social care and health onboard our learning and skills bus. Through dynamic, hands-on sessions, they’re discovering the vital roles and rewarding career paths that help support some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. So far, the Careers on Wheels bus has visited The Market Weighton School, Driffield Secondary School and Sixth Form, and Headlands School in Bridlington, delivering engaging and informative sessions.
