Council to provide £150K for youth initiatives
The Do it for East Yorkshire (DIFEY) scheme, funded by the council, offers funding for youth initiatives through its Our Place - Youth Fund. This fund supports community groups, charities, and youth projects across the East Riding. A total of £150,000 is available for projects that aim to benefit young people in the area.
Holiday Activities and Food Christmas grants launch
The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) grant scheme has launched for Christmas.
Applications are welcome from organisations, charities, schools, town and parish councils, faith groups and businesses to provide four-hour sessions and a healthy meal for children and young people who receive benefits-related free school meals. Organisations can apply for up to £5,000 to deliver activities in the Christmas holidays.
The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Monday, 15 September 2025.
Free compost giveaways are back for September
The ever-popular free compost giveaways will be back in September for their second round this year.
The council's waste and recycling team will be visiting sites in Beverley, Preston, Goole, Hornsea, Pocklington, Withernsea, Driffield, and Carnaby, from Saturday, 13 September to Saturday, 27 September.
East Riding residents are invited to come along and collect two free bags of compost, which has all been recycled from the garden and food waste people put in their brown bins.
Emergency Alerts system test
The UK government is testing the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday, 7 September at 3pm. Compatible mobile phones and tablets will receive an alert, make a loud siren-like sound, and vibrate. You will not need to take any action.
The Emergency Alerts system is used to warn if there’s a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather. Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency.
