Sewerby Hall and Gardens’ Zoo announce name of new female penguin chick
 The zoo team at Sewerby Hall and Gardens are delighted to announce that a name has been chosen for the new, female Humboldt penguin chick.
Following a lively public vote which took place on Sewerby Hall and Gardens’ social media, the name Pebble took the lead and has been chosen as the winning name.
East Riding Leisure Haltemprice gym refurbishment
 East Riding Leisure Haltemprice will have a gym refurbishment next month and feature brand new gym kit and equipment.
The gym will be closed from Friday, 12 September at 7.30pm and is expected to reopen on Saturday, 27 September at 8am.
Other areas of the centre will remain open during the gym refurbishment, and there will be additional classes available with some gym equipment available in alternative rooms.
North Bridlington Library to close for major refurbishment
 Thanks to government funding, North Bridlington Library is set for a major transformation, including a complete ground floor refurbishment and the addition of an innovative junior sensory room.
North Bridlington Library will close from Monday, 1 September, with the last working day being Saturday, 30 August. The project will aim to be completed by the end of 2025.
£345,000 road improvement scheme to begin in Low Catton
A large road improvement scheme, to improve the C35 between White Thorn Farm and Smeaton Road, is set to commence on Monday 1 September. The works will run for up to three weeks between 8am and 5pm.
During the construction period, the affected road will be closed to all through traffic. A diversion route will be clearly signposted.

Hessle roundabout improvements
Essential carriageway improvement works are scheduled to begin on Sunday, 31 August at Darley’s Roundabout on Boothferry Road in Hessle.
The programme will run across five consecutive Sundays, starting on 31 August and continuing throughout September. The roundabout will be fully closed during working hours, which are scheduled from 8am to 7pm on Sundays only. Signed diversion routes will be in place.

Freedom Festival on Tour programme to return to Bridlington
 Hull’s International Arts and Culture Festival, Freedom Festival, is again extending its reach beyond the city, through the Freedom On Tour programme.
The programme will visit Bridlington on Thursday 28 August with two performances at 11.30am - 2pm and 3pm –5pm in the area next to Bridlington Spa.
Freedom On Tour includes a diverse and exciting range of performances that capture the spirit of the Freedom Festival. Possê, by Sound de Secà, is a lively street show full of percussion, dance, and voice – bringing people together with a burst of energy and joy.
