Full Council appoints new chief executive
 At the Full Council meeting on Wednesday 25 June, Paul Bellotti was approved as the new chief executive. Paul will replace current interim chief executive, Alan Menzies, when he retires in November.
Youth and community groups to benefit from funding for youth projects
 Youth and community groups in East Riding are to benefit from a share of £80,000 of funding through the Positive Activities Grant (PAG). The PAG funding is for charity or not for profit organisations that provide recreational and educational leisure-time activities, or emotional wellbeing support, for young people aged 11 and over.
Pet owners encouraged to add ‘What 3 Words’ to their dogs’ microchips
 By law, all dogs in the UK must have registered microchipped implanted by the time they’re eight weeks old. 'What 3 Words' can be added to the microchip infomation to help with things such as reuniting lost dogs with their owners. ‘What 3 Words’ provides a randomly assigned three-word address that corelates to a 3m by 3m square anywhere on earth.
'More than Weight' network events
 Throughout July, there will be a series of in-person 'More than Weight' network events where there will be discussions on what healthy weight means and a chance to chat with the council's public health team. All sessions are free.
Improvements coming to roads and footpaths in Brough
 Initial work is due to begin on Monday 21 July and last up to five weeks. £300,000 is being invested to upgrade road and path surfaces in Welton Road, Brough. This part of the scheme will take place through the village from Moor Road to Cave Road.The work will be carried out during daytime hours, avoiding rush hours, and temporary traffic lights will be in place.
Volunteen Voice awards celebrate young people’s voice and influence work
 East Riding young people were celebrated for their voice and influence work at the second annual Volunteen Voice awards. Young people’s work across different organisations, services and communities were celebrated in 16 categories including; East Riding Youth Council, Environmental Champion, Young Safeguarding Champions, Voices That Influence, Young Carers Service, Humber Youth Action Group, Nothing About Us Without Us, East Riding Safeguarding Children Partnership and East Riding Members of UK Youth Parliament.
High-tech AI camera used in trial to combat litter on verges
 A CCTV camera using AI technology is now being trialled in a bid to combat litter thrown carelessly on grass verges in the East Riding. A pilot scheme has been launched with the firm LitterCam to install a high-tech camera on a road in Willerby to record drivers who drop their rubbish on the roadside.
Advice on risk to children of glycerol in slush ice drinks
 The Food Standards Agency (FSA) Board has issued updated advice that slush ice drinks containing glycerol are not suitable for children under seven.
Why?
- Slush ice drinks can contain glycerol as a substitute for sugar to prevent them from freezing solid
- Young children who have too much glycerol may get a headache or feel sick
- Consumed at high levels, the risk is glycerol can cause very low blood sugar levels and unconsciousness in young children.
