Yellow heat-health alert issued across Yorkshire and the Humber
 A yellow heat-health alert has been issued across Yorkshire and Humber until Sunday, 22 June at 6pm. For some, especially older people, young children and those with underlying health conditions such as respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, the summer heat can bring real health risks.
Construction contract awarded for new Howden Relief Road
 A contractor has been appointed for a major project to create a new £45m relief road for Howden. East Riding of Yorkshire Council has officially awarded the main construction contract for the anticipated Howden Relief Road scheme, which is designed to reduce congestion by diverting heavy traffic away from the town centre, reducing accidents, lowering carbon emissions and improving travel times.
Dog owners urged to keep dogs on leads to protect puffins
 Many popular East Riding coastal destinations are known for their spectacular wildlife, including Flamborough Head, the Wolds Way, and Spurn Point Nature Reserve. Responsible dog ownership is key to maintaining their habitats, as well as protecting livestock and keeping dogs and owners safe.
Road improvement scheme begins on A63
 An essential scheme to improve the road surface on parts of the A63 Melton interchange started this week. £230,000 has been invested to upgrade the road on the Woodside bridge roundabouts and the overbridge on the A63 Melton interchange. The works will takeplace between 8pm and 5am. The roads will reopen during the daytime.
Two East Riding residents awarded with MBE
 Leon Myers, Headteacher of Swinemoor Primary School in Beverley, has been named in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2025, for services to education.
 Foster carer Anita Barnard, from Driffield, has been named in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2025, for services to education.
