Volunteers Needed for Local Offer Website Testing

We are currently in the process of moving the Local Offer website to the corporate website and are seeking volunteers to assist with user testing on Friday, 25 April.

The testing will take approximately 30 minutes and will be held at County Hall in Beverley. During the session, you will navigate the website to complete a few scenarios and provide feedback. There are no right or wrong answers; we simply want to understand how you find the information you need.

We have slots available between 10am and 3pm. If you are interested in participating, please email localoffer@eastriding.gov.uk with your preferred time by Wednesday, 23 April. Session times will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we appreciate your support in making the Local Offer website as user-friendly as possible.

Short Breaks Statement 2025 / 2026

The Short Breaks Statement has been developed to meet the requirements of relevant legislation, and includes information about:

The range of short breaks available
Who short breaks are for (eligibility criteria) and how needs are assessed
How the range of short breaks are designed to meet the needs of families (including carers) with disabled children in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

This Short Breaks Statement has been coproduced alongside parents, carers and children and young people.

Hull Truck Theatre

Here is a reminder of the access show dates for our next Hull Truck Theatre production, To Have and To Hold – starring Paula Wilcox, Ian Bartholomew and Stephen Tompkinson.

We have also just announced dates for our two 2025 Christmas shows, Oliver Twist and The Little Mermaid.

Hull Independent Cinema – The People’s Joker (15) – Saturday 12 April, 7pm

Hull Independent Cinema – I Saw the TV Glow (15) – Saturday 17 May, 7pm

Hull Independent Cinema – The Stimming Pool (12A) – Thursday 17 July, 7pm

All of these films include Descriptive Captions for those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The Stimming Pool also has a relaxed attitude to noise and movement in the theatre space.

Matinees: 7th, 10th, 14th , 17th, 21st, 22^nd, 24^th May, 2pm

Relaxed Performance – Tuesday 13^th May, 7.30pm. (A show experience guide will be available ahead of your visit)

Baby Friendly Performance – Friday 16^th May, 11am (for those with babies under 18 months)

Audio Described Performance – Saturday 17^th May, 2pm. Touch Tour at 12.30pm. Audio Description and Touch Tour provided by Jill Quarmby.

Touch Tours allow blind and visually impaired patrons the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the set, costumes and props, ahead of the show. Places must be booked with the Box Office in advance.

BSL Interpreted Performance – Tuesday 20^th May, 7.30pm. Interpreter is Dave Wycherley and a BSL flyer will be available closer to the show date.

Captioned Performance – Wednesday 21st May, 7.30pm. Live captions provided by Claire McIntyre.

SEND family sessions to roll out across East Riding Libraries

From April, dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) focused family sessions will begin in Beverley, Goole, Bridlington North and Haltemprice libraries, with more joining the offer from September.

Sessions will begin from 26 April and will take place monthly during term time at:
Haltemprice Library on the first Thursday of the month, 10.30am to 12pm
North Bridlington Library on the last Friday of the month, 10am to 12pm
Goole Library on the first Tuesday of the month, 2.15 – 3.45pm
Beverley Library on Saturdays every four weeks, 1.30 – 3.30pm

This is also a chance to meet the members of the EYPCF team and a great opportunity to meet likeminded parents and carers who understand what life is like as a SEND family to share experiences and offer peer to peer support.

EYPCF – Volunteering Opportunities

Are you a parent/carer of a child 0-25 with SEND and want to share your experience and knowledge to help improve lives for families across the East Riding?

Being a volunteer of the Steering Group involves representing the PCF at meetings with the local authority, health, and other external organisations alongside other PCF Steering Group members, attending and helping at EYPCF events, check-in and chats, and workshops around the region.

Clearly time is an important element, our experience shows that those who have children linked into local SEND provision are passionate about getting the best care, not only for their own children, but

for others too. So many of the parents who come to us for advice are happy to pass on their own experiences in meetings and in consultations.
