Free HAF activities for children
This Easter, free activities for children on benefits-related free school meals are available across East Riding through the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme.
Limited places are also available for young people who have an education, health and care plan (EHCP).
New offerings include horse riding, roller discos, yoga, and archery.
Places are booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Most sessions are four hours long, and each child can book up to four sessions.
Launch of HAF summer holidays grants 2025
The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) summer holidays grant scheme has launched for 2025.
Applications are welcomed from organisations, charities, schools, town and parish councils, faith groups, and businesses to provide four-hour sessions and a healthy meal for children and young people in receipt of benefits-related free school meals. Organisations can apply for up to £20,000 to deliver fun activities in the summer holidays.
Sessions could include sport, play, drama, cooking, crafts, music, healthy lifestyles, art, outdoor adventure or animal experiences. HAF grants can part-fund programmes that are open to all children, or fully-fund those solely for eligible families.
The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Wednesday, 30 April.

 Applications open for YOR4Good grants
The council is one of four lead authorities involved in developing and running YORhub, which supports public sector construction projects in Yorkshire and the Humber.
To give back to local communities, YORhub created the YOR4Good fund. This fund provides grants - usually up to £10,000 - to charities and community groups working on local projects.
These grants can be used for projects that improve communities, from sports and arts to outdoor activities.
The latest round of YOR4Good grants is now open. The deadline is Saturday, 31 May 2025.
Charities and community groups can apply through the council’s grant portal, Flexigrant.
If you know an organisation that could benefit from funding, please encourage them to apply or email Stan Brown for more details.
This is a great opportunity for local projects to get financial support, so please help us spread the word.

Help us improve the Dolly Parton Imagination Library
The Imagination Library is a charity that gives free books to young children. It began as a global initiative by Dolly Parton. In the East Riding, children from birth to five years old can receive a personally addressed book every month in the post. The aim of the programme is to guarantee access to books, inspire a lifelong love of reading, and help children reach their full potential.
If you've signed up, we'd love to hear your thoughts. By completing the short survey below, you can help us understand what's working well and how we can make it better.
If you need the survey in another language or format, please email Laura Pool.

 Anti-racist strategy consultation
The council's Corporate Equality Plan for 2024-2028 has made creating an anti-racist strategy a priority. The council is committed to becoming an anti-racist organisation. This means recognising that racism affects people’s lives and working to better understand its impact.
To help with this, a consultation has been launched for people who have experienced racism because of their ethnicity or religion, including antisemitism and Islamophobia.
All responses will remain anonymous, but there is also an opportunity for individuals to provide additional input to help shape the anti-racist strategy.
Download our anti-racist strategy poster to help promote this consultation.

 Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) survey
Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire needs resident feedback to support the local authority Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA).
Sharing your views will help ensure that pharmacy services in East Riding meet the needs of you and your family, or the residents you may support as part of your role.
What is the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA)?
Since April 2013, the Health and Social Care Act 2012 has tasked Health and Wellbeing Boards with publishing PNAs every three years. The assessment is used to identify any gaps in services or improvements that could be made to future pharmaceutical service provision.

Dog walkers reminded to be considerate of wildlife and livestock
Residents and visitors are reminded to be responsible dog owners when visiting the East Riding countryside.
During the spring and summer months, livestock will be in the fields, and ground-nesting birds and other wild animals will be breeding. It is vital that dogs are always kept under effective control, to keep them safe and to avoid disturbing or harming farm animals and wildlife.
Always check local signs, as there are situations when you must keep your dog on a lead for all or part of the year. Some areas may also ban dogs completely, except for assistance dogs. Look out for signs about these local restrictions, and visit the council’s website for more information for dog owners.
