Funded supervised toothbrushing programme for Early Years settings
The Government has announced an investment of £11 million to implement supervised toothbrushing programmes for children aged 3 – 5 in early years settings, targeting the most deprived areas of England.
Local authorities will identify early years settings in target areas, who may then volunteer to participate in this fully funded programme.
There is no requirement for settings to sign-up, however supervised toothbrushing programmes are a great way to meet the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework requirement to promote good oral health.
The scheme is the latest step in Government’s Plan for Change to give children the best start in life and prevent ill health. It will help tackle levels of poor oral health allowing up to 600,000 children to be supported in learning positive habits to help prevent tooth decay.
