Updates from the Executive Director

Please find attached a letter including important updates regarding our Children and Young People Specialist Services, including changes to current working arrangements, the development of our SEND and Inclusion Strategy and the proposed SEND and Inclusion Board Governance Groups and responsibilities.

SEND & Inclusion Strategy - Virtual Events

Our virtual sessions aim to facilitate opportunities for parents, carers, and professionals to participate in sessions outside of traditional office hours to ensure the widest possible contribution to the development of our SEND and Inclusion Strategy.

Virtual Sessions

Transitions – Monday, 24 February, 7-8pm.
Culture and Communication – Wednesday, 26 February, 7-8pm.
Governance – Monday, 3 March, 7-8pm.
Partnerships – Thursday, 6 March, 7-8pm.
Timely Support – Monday, 10 March, 7-8pm.
Learning, Development, and Impact – Wednesday, 12 March, 7-8pm.

These sessions will aim to summarise the findings so far, review and further embellish on the work produced, gather additional views and answer questions from attendees.

Please feel free to drop in and out of the session at your convenience to tell us what you think.

These sessions will all take place via Microsoft Teams meetings.

Events

BSL Signed Play in a Day – Workshop at the Junction in Goole – 20 February 2025.

This workshop runs from 10am – 4pm, and is for Deaf children ages 5-12.

Work with two professional theatre makers and a British Sign Language interpreter, to put on a play at the end of the day!

As well as using sign language and spoken word, you will learn movement skills and work as an ensemble to create an exciting (and bonkers!) piece of theatre that you will perform in front of friends and family. This day is specifically for deaf children, but they’re welcome to bring a hearing friend or sibling.

All you need to do is wear trainers and comfortable clothing for movement work, bring a packed lunch, and of course – enthusiasm!

IMPS Holiday Clubs and Consultation

What? Come and join Jodie and explore the musicals through instruments, singing and dancing! We'll have a main stage in our activities room, where we'll create characters and scenes together in exciting games. We'll make our own theatrical music and songs, and we'll sing your favourites as an encore! We'll also have our sensory 'dressing room' in our breakout room to chill out, or explore lots of fabulous theatre props and dressing up.

Where? Accessible Arts and Media, Clifton Explore Library, Rawcliffe Drive, YO30 6NS

Clifton Explore is fully accessible with step free access, accessible parking and accessible toilet as well as a changing places.

Cost? £12, payable cash or card on the day. Subsidised places and sibling discounts are available- please contact us for details

Who? 8+- this is only a guide, so if you fall outside of this age gap, please get in contact.

All of our holiday clubs are fully inclusive. You don't need to any experience in music to take part.

You may have also seen that Accessible Arts & Media are running a consultation. We have funding in place to run more inclusive music activities for young people aged 5-25 from next year. We really value your opinion on what we can do to develop our programme for young people. We’d be very grateful if you could spend a bit of time filling out this form to help up plan new activities. Calling all adventurers aged 11-18 with a vision impairment!

On the 22nd of March 2025, we will go on a jam-packed adventure day at Mount Cook Adventure Centre in Derbyshire, where we will take part in exciting activities like rock climbing, scrambling, and high ropes.

Provisional timings for the trip are as follows: the trip will start at 9.30am and will finish at 5pm. You will be expected to arrive a little earlier than this. Lunch will be included.

You will need to make your own way to Mount Cook Adventure Centre. If you have transport difficulties, please send an email to Fran.Barrett@rsbc.org.uk and we will try to find a solution which works for you.

East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum

EYPCF – Check-in & Chat

Date – Tuesday 25th February 2025

Time – 10:00 to 12:00

Venue – Beverley Enterprise Centre, Beckview Rd, Beverley, HU17 0JT

COST – FREE, parking is available onsite, refreshments will be provided.

Notes - This session is for all parents and carers of children and young people (0-25) with SEND. Travel and childcare costs can be reimbursed.

Please join us for our regular Check-in & Chat event. Representatives from the local authority will be joining us along with people from health, and social care.

This is also a chance to meet the members of the EYPCF team and a great opportunity to meet likeminded parents and carers who understand what life is like as a SEND family to share experiences and offer peer to peer support.
