The council, in partnership with Humberside Police, was able to provide a range of activities for young people aged 11 and over in receipt of benefit-related free school meals this summer. Outreach workers led a range of activities, from DJ workshop, multisport with Hull FC and street art workshops, to dance workshops. Much of this wouldn't have been possible without the Our Place mobile youth provision bus.

A survey about vaping use, carried out among 12 to 18-year-olds across the East Riding, has found that one in three young people had tried a vaporiser, and one in ten vape on a regular basis.
The council is now focused on action aimed at discouraging young people from beginning to vape. To date, 3,000 illegal vapes have been seized by Trading Standards in Goole, Bridlington, Beverley, and Withernsea.

World Suicide Prevention Day is on Tuesday, 10 September this year. It is an opportunity to raise awareness of suicide and the steps that we can take to prevent it and help to reduce the stigma surrounding it.
Mental Health England and Papyrus have produced useful videos regarding mental health and feelings of loneliness. Click the links above to watch these videos, and click the button below to learn more.
On Sunday, 15 September 2024, there is also a Walk of Hope taking place in support of suicide prevention. It wil be held at Beverley Brave Clubhouse (HU17 7QJ) for a special evening. Come together to show your support for suicide prevention, to remember lost loved ones, and for the survivors of suicide. It will be hosted by Hull and East Yorkshire Mind (with public health support from East Riding).
The walk takes place at 6.30pm, followed by refreshments at 7.15pm, and a candle lit vigil at 7.30pm.
