July update
Construction of the new Bentley Bridge continues and earthworks progress.
Earthworks progressing
The scheme continues to progress with earthworks well underway. Watch the video below for the latest update.
Significant progress has been made over the last month, with earthworks continuing and further utility works taking place across the scheme.
In July earthworks will resume on the A164 from Skidby roundabout to Dunflat Road following the completion of essential pre-earthworks drainage. So far 11,000m3 of topsoil has been stripped and stored.
Earthworks are ongoing from the A1079 south to the A164, with 80,000m3 being moved as part of the cut and fill operation. Three new attenuation ponds are nearing completion. Attenuation ponds store surface water and help prevent localised flooding in the future.
Changes to the landscape can now be seen on the A1079 as works to construct the new A1079 roundabout continues. The south of the roundabout has now been filled with the first layer of stone used to construct the new road. Drainage works are also ongoing.
Bentley Bridge
The new Bentley Bridge continues to rise out of the ground, with concrete pours completed to form the bridge abutment foundations – reinforced concrete supports that will hold the new bridge stems and deck.
Work on the structures wingwall foundations continue with approximately 50 tonnes of reinforced steel work to be installed and 300m3 of concrete to be poured. By late autumn, the structure will be complete involving 93 tonnes of reinforcement and pouring 1,500m3 of structural concrete. This robust foundation is designed to support the massive 82-tonne beams that will carry the new northbound A164 road.
