SEND Workshops
Are you a parent/carer of a child or children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Would you like to know more about how to support your child alongside supporting your own wellbeing? Would you be available for two hours a week in a relaxed environment with other parents/carers? (Tea, coffee, and biscuits included!)
All completely free of charge!
If so, please join us for our multi-service workshops. The sessions will be delivered by specialists working with children and young people with SEND.
The workshops run on a Thursday morning, 10am until 12pm from the:

Julian Willis - Designated Social Care Officer
The Designated Social Care Officer (DSCO) role sits within ERYC Children and Young People's Support and Safeguarding Services and provides capacity and expertise to improve links with the SEND system. Similar to the Designated Clinical Officer (DCO) role in health, the DSCO role supports both operational input and more strategic planning functions for children with disabilities and those with SEN. The overarching aims of the DSCO role are:
• Better outcomes for children and families
• Improved social care input to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP)
• Bringing the Social care and SEND systems together
• Improving knowledge and understanding of SEND across all areas of Social Care
• Improving knowledge and understanding of Social Care across the SEND system

New Supported Internship programme at Siemens Mobility in Goole
6 internship positions available in 2024 for individuals between the ages of 18 and 24 at the new Goole Rail Village.
An in-person information evening for potential candidates is to be held at the Goole Rail Village on Tuesday 16 April, 2024.

New, life-changing supported internship programme available
A new life-changing supported internship programme for young adults with a learning disability and/or autism spectrum conditions has just launched at Asda.
Asda, Wilberforce College, Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and national charity DFN Project SEARCH have formed a collaborative partnership to give young people with a learning disability and/or autism vital work-based learning opportunities, to help them secure competitive employment.

Sibs - For brothers and sisters of disabled children and adults
Here at Sibs we will be celebrating National Siblings Day on Wednesday, 10th April. This year's theme is #ItsaSiblingThing and we're inviting siblings, parents and organisations to show their support in raising awareness of siblings of disabled children and adults. We have activity sheets and resources for young siblings, as well as a workshop for adult siblings. Local Offer Roadshow - drop-in sessions
Over the past 12 months the Local Offer website has been re-designed with the help of parents, carers and young people to ensure it meets the needs of our local community.
Over spring/summer 2024 a series of information sessions are being held at libraries across the East Riding to demonstrate the new-look website, showcase the range of information available and get feedback from families on any developments we can make.
No need to book just come along and meet the Local Offer team.

Aim Higher SEN Support meeting
Aim Higher is launching a new SEN support meeting for parent/carers to meet other parents in a safe, non-judgmental environment. The group will meet at the Armstrong Centre in Beverley on the third Wednesday of every month at 10am.
The first session will be held on Wednesday 17 April 10.00am to 12noon.
Meetings will be held at:

The Lookout - Pop up Hub
Are you a parent or carer of a child with SEN (Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities)?
The Lookout are hosting a ‘Pop-Up Hub’ event at Withernsea Primary School on Friday 12 April, 9-10.30am.
Services and groups from across the community, local authority and health will be available to explain how they support local families and answer any questions you may have. The event is open to the families and children of all ages.

New! Weekly Dance/Performing Arts Sessions for Young People with Down Syndrome Ages 11-25.
Book a place for a friend too if you like!
We are so excited to be starting a weekly dance/performing arts session for our young adults! This has been organised in response to feedback from parents, and from surveys completed by the young people themselves!
Come and see what it is all about by booking now for your two-week free trial sessions on Monday 22nd April and Monday 29th April. (After the free trial sessions will cost £5 per week per person to be paid in advance termly or half-termly)
Sessions will be every Monday in term time.
7.30pm-8.30pm, Wolfreton School Sports Hub, Willerby
- Led by Joanna of Harker’s Choreography, this is an inclusive, relaxed session for everyone to enjoy dance / performing arts at their own level.
- Wear comfortable clothing/trainers and bring a drink.
- The venue is very accessible, on the ground floor and with parking next to it that will be made available exclusively for our use.
- Do let us know if there are any reasonable adjustments that would help make these sessions as enjoyable as possible for your young person! There will be an opportunity to tell us during booking but you can always call/email us to discuss anything!
- We ask that parents/carers stay on site, with seating available outside the room.
- If your young person needs 1:1 support, then of course an adult is welcome to be in the session with them 😊

Portage Workshop
This is a certificated training course delivered by National Portage Association Accredited Trainers.
The Portage Workshop is an introduction to the Portage Approach to working with children with additional needs and their families. The workshop is suitable for early years practitioners who work in an early year’s settings (PVI or maintained), Children’s Centres, Childminders and parents/carers of children who are receiving Portage support.
Central to the course are the ‘Portage Principles’ and the ‘Three Circle Model of Portage’. The NPA has set standards for minimum workshop content and length. The Workshop has a core curriculum consisting of seven modules and must last a minimum of 2 full days plus a Follow Up session.
The workshop is designed to support parents who have children that are being supported by Portage, and practitioners working with children, to help support their learning and development and to understand the strategies and principles used by Portage Workers.
The dates are 14.05.24, 04.06.24 and 10.07.24, 9:30am - 4pm at Goole Adult Learning Centre, Pasture Road, Goole, DN14 6DP.
