Spring Term Public Health Update
We hope you had a nice and restful break over Christmas as we move into 2024. Following recent increases in incidence and types of infectious/notifiable diseases reported it is key that all settings continue to report cases as soon as you are informed through to the Education Public Health Team via the online reporting system to mitigate any outbreaks. Protecting the health and wellbeing of our settings and their communities is pivotal in maximising face-to-face learning, and mental health and wellbeing. Regular handwashing, ventilation, cleaning, and swift isolation are all vital in mitigating transmission of infectious/notifiable diseases.
Each setting will receive the Spring Toolkit as part of this mailout as we continue to improve and extend the support, we provide settings by anticipating the challenges at this time of year. The spring tool kit is a supportive document that should inform planning and action for the spring period. It includes key public health items that will be relevant to staff, children, parents and stakeholders in settings. We encourage all settings to make time to read and share the information where appropriate.
We look forward to seeing you at the termly Public Health Briefing which can be accessed via this link: Friday, 12th January 2024 at 13.30 – 14.30 - Public Health Briefing Link. This session will provide up-to-date information for settings, supporting planning and preparation for spring infections and outbreaks as well as environmental factors. We are also running 4 webinars over the spring term designed to support settings. The links to and details of these are provided within the Spring Toolkit which is also available on HERE For Schools.
Please contact the helpline (01482) 392419 between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday and/or email cfsinfo@eastriding.gov.uk for any advice and support. In an emergency, please contact the UKHSA Health Protection Team (0151) 9091219 outside these hours.

Regulatory changes to the Early Years Foundation Stage framework (EYFS) now live
Following the 2023 summer consultation, regulatory changes have been made to the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. The changes are live from 4 January 2024. There is now one framework for childminders and one for group and school-based providers.
Some notable changes to the EYFS include, but are not limited to:
- The creation of two versions of the EYFS: one for childminders and one for group and school-based providers.
- The creation of a new document setting out Early Years qualification requirements and standards.
- Removing the requirement for Level 3 practitioners to hold a Level 2 maths qualification to count within staff: child ratios and instead place this requirement on managers.
- Students and apprentices can now count in ratios at the level below their level of study if the manager believes they are competent and responsible to do so.
- Settings may provide opportunities for children to develop and use their home language in play and learning, previously this requirement stated this ‘must’ be done.
- Childminder assistants can hold the role of key person.
Removal of the requirement for childminders to complete EYFS training before registration. Childminders will still be required to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the EYFS.
Changes to Early Years training registrations
To assist providers when registering for any upcoming early years training courses, the training team have launched a new registration form from today.
This new form allows you to input the details of up to 2 attendees and those of up to 5 colleagues wishing to be placed on a waiting list, rather than having to email the details to team. Please use one form per course registration.
The form can be accessed via the top of each training page or be bookmarked direct via this link HERE as the team will not be accepting any booking requests via email going forward.
Any courses booked with the training team via email prior to today are not affected.
The full spring term training programme can be found via the service directory as normal HERE
Should you require any support with a course booking, or the registration form please email the training team direct earlyyears.training@eastriding.gov.uk
