This is our internal campaign to link together the many activities and actions that we are taking and asking you to take to manage our finances well and to reduce the overall council deficit.
When you see these graphics on our communications, you will be able to make the link to our shared task to reduce costs, save money and achieve budget savings.

Refresher guidance regarding the management of COVID-19 and respiratory infections
As we head into the colder months, inevitably managers will start to see an increase in seasonal illnesses. Public health and people services have reviewed and updated the current national guidance and council policy regarding respiratory infections, including COVID-19, to support both line managers and colleagues with sickness absences and the correct processes.
The current government guidance on the GOV.UK website may also be useful to share with colleagues as a reminder of basic infection prevention and control measures such as ventilation, washing hands with soap and water (not just using hand sanitiser) and regularly cleaning touch points in communal spaces and offices.
The latest guidance for line managers and staff, including symptoms and testing is available to read on the staff intranet, click the link below to read the full article.

Changes to workplace drug and alcohol testing policy
Our Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy has been updated to make it easier to read and follow the procedure, further, to strengthen the support available to staff who are struggling with a drug or alcohol misuse problem.
The testing procedure can be applied to all workers. Managers can use the policy and procedure to ensure that a fair and consistent approach to testing is applied. As stated within the policy, for cause testing will apply where there is cause to believe that a member of staff’s behaviour or performance at work is impaired by drugs or alcohol. If so, they may be required to undertake the drug and alcohol testing procedure.
Details of the testing company and how to make contact are available from your Directorates Responsible Officer when needed.
If a member of staff discloses that they have a drug or alcohol misuse problem a supportive approach should be taken to assist them in their recovery, but it remains their responsibility to seek help, from external services such as their GP.
Managers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the updated Workplace drug and alcohol testing policy and procedure.

iTrent job advert success and new Recruitment Onboarding
It has been one month since new job advert requests moved to iTrent Manager Self Service using the recruitment dashboard. The move has seen managers from across the organisation process their adverts using iTrent, making it quicker to create and publish adverts onto the East Riding jobs site.
Feedback from manager drop-in sessions has been positive, describing the process as easy to use and simpler than the previous process. The new format of guidance has also been well received, as this has moved away from traditional Word forms to video, walkthrough images and help text directly in iTrent.
If you or someone you know needs support on the new job advert process or request to advertise vacancy form, they can view the how to advertise guidance page.
Recruitment Onboarding
Following on from the success of the implementation of the job advert process in iTrent, we will be introducing the Recruitment Onboarding portal functionality, which will be made available to new starters before their first day of employment.
The portal will allow new starters to access important information about the Council, complete a checklist of personal details, and view information about their new role.
The onboarding process precedes an employee's first day, and new starters will have access to the portal upon completion of their pre-employment checks and a start date being agreed with the recruiting manager.
Onboarding will also enable us to further maximise iTrent functionality and increase the use of automated communications throughout the recruitment process, with managers and candidates receiving more frequent updates on progress.
More information and support available will be provided on the launch in future bulletins.

Last chance to apply for the Household Support Fund
Do you have staff earning less than £33,000? If so, they could get £350 to help face soaring bills this autumn.
The government's Household Support Fund has increased. Now, anyone with a household income below £33,000 (up from £31,000) or (£28,000 for a single person, up from £26,000), could be eligible to apply.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been awarded £4.1m in this latest round of funding. And we don’t want eligible staff to miss out. So, we’re urging managers to cascade this information to anyone who may qualify.
Tell your staff to hurry, though, because applications close on Tuesday, 31 October.
Our cost-of-living intranet page has further advice on how to ease financial pressures.

Treasure House car park in Beverley to close completely from 30 October during construction work
As the Treasure House transformation project continues in Beverley, its car park will be completely closed from Monday, 30 October until the Treasure House reopens, which it is hoped will be in early autumn, 2024.
The complete closure will allow the Princes Gardens car park site to be used as a site compound for the contractors, and a works area. The closure will mean that construction activities on the site will be kept segregated from the general public, ensuring a safe area.
Alternative car parking will be available at East Riding Theatre (evenings and weekends); Grayburn Lane; and the railway station.
