STAFFING UPDATES - new information for the Local Offer Bulletin
Educational Psychology Service
For the Educational Psychology Service we've had an exciting start to the new academic year inducting our four new Educational Psychologists (EPs) - Louise Watson (North) Rebecca Steels (West), Sarah Lomax (East) and Ruth Simpson (West) and our two new Trainee EPs, Sammie Golding and Rebecca Clarke. As a service we feel fortunate to have recruited to our vacancies, particularly as there is a national shortage of EPs. Two temporary 12 months fixed term Specialist Senior EP positions have been created within the service to lead service developments, with Dr Sue Youngson seconded to undertake the Specialist Senior EP for social, emotional and mental health and Dr Caroline Casey the Specialist Senior EP for vulnerable children.

The Team has gone through some staff changes including a new manager, a new senior officer and triage officer! Check them out below.
Daniel Pott – Service Manager - I joined East Riding SENDIASS in July 2018 and had previously worked for an independent support project as part of the SEND reforms from 2015. From March 2021 I became the Service Manager. My role within the service is to support and supervise the team whilst supporting with mediation, tribunal, and permanent exclusion.
Issy Wadsworth – Senior Officer - I support parents through the mediation and tribunal process, permanent exclusions and supported through Director Discretion transport appeals. I also am the case officer for the east of East Riding, covering the areas of Beverley, Hornsea, Withernsea and Hedon. I have worked within SENDIASS for 3 years. Outside of work, I am currently completing a Master's degree in Psychology. I have previously worked as a secondary school teacher, gaining valuable experience of classroom support, and working directly with young people. I fully understand the importance of inclusion for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Lucy Smith – Triage Officer - I previously studied my Level Three Teaching and Supporting Children with SEND, whilst working as a Teaching Assistant in a local primary school. I have also completed further education courses and SEN training to expand upon my knowledge. Being parent to a child with Autism and additional educational needs has also been a driving factor for me to pursue a career with SENDIASS.
Along with staff changes we have updated our website! We hope this will help to answer many of your questions regarding Special Educational Needs or Disabilities, though please contact the service for any further queries.
As part of this update, we have added the option to Chat Live with Us*
* This function is only available when you see the banner “Chat live with us” as at times we may not have an Officer available due to other service commitments.
Additionally, you may not be aware that since September 2021 we have been able to directly support Young Adults (up to the age 25) with information, advice, and support regarding SEND Law enabling young adults to make their own choices. We ensure they are getting the right kind of support at school, college or training.

ONE ADOPTION CAMPAIGN
Have you thought about adoption as a way to create your family? One Adoption North and Humber, North Yorkshire and the Humber’s regional adoption agency, are encouraging people who are thinking about adopting to consider children with additional health needs who wait the longest for their forever family.
Adopters are in greatest demand for children with additional needs, as well as for brother and sister groups and older children. In the Humber region, children with additional needs make up 20 per cent of all children waiting to be adopted, with many facing year-long delays compared to other children.
Adopters Louise, a carer for young adults and her husband David, adopted George who has global developmental delay.
Louise says: ‘We felt we could offer a loving and safe home to a child with additional needs and decided that if we had had our own child and there were uncertainties, we would take things as they are. You just can’t see into the future. My philosophy was ‘what will be will be’. What I know is that I will fight for George, whatever his needs. I’m experienced at this, advocating for people, and know about lots of services to access with my job.
‘Many people wouldn’t consider a child with additional needs, but I’d rather be the one who said “yes”. I feel you need to be able to meet your child’s needs and be able to live with uncertainty.’
You can read more about Louise and David’s story here.
Howard Lovelady, head of One Adoption North and Humber says: ‘All children are unique and valued and deserve a loving, safe and permanent home. For anyone considering adopting a child with additional needs, there is a lot of support in place from initial training through to workshops, events and specific therapeutic or health support. Having your own network of support from family and friends is also important. Adopting a child with additional needs can be challenging but it is also incredibly rewarding and gives you the opportunity to change the course of a child’s life for the better.’
One Adoption North and Humber hold online information events twice a month.
