SEND Parent Carer Event – Tickton Grange – DATE CHANGE

PLEASE BOOK YOUR PLACE BY 14^th OCTOBER

The Families Information Service Hub and the East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum have taken the decision to move the arranged date of the SEND Parent Carer Event to be held at Tickton Grange in the interest of those wishing to attend, so that we can ensure parent carers get as much value as possible from the experience. The event will now take place on Thursday 3rd November 2022 as opposed to the previous date of 29th September.

We are looking carefully at the content of the workshops running to ensure that current issues which have become more pressing over the summer holiday period (such as the cost of living crisis) are properly addressed and we can provide the most worthwhile information and advice.

We are hoping with more time, we will we have chance to develop the content delivered and that a higher number of parent carers will book on to attend. We will contact all parent carers who have already booked onto the event via e-mail to check that this new date is still suitable.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused, and we hope to see you there in November.

Event details…

FISH, the EYPCF and the parent carers of the Information Group are co-producing an event for parent carers of children and young people with SEND. The event will comprise of a wide range of stallholders including local authority services, leisure groups, mental health support outlets, and wellbeing/pamper drop-in counters which visitors can wander around, gather information and chat to providers at their leisure. There will also be workshop sessions running in a separate room which parent carers can pop into and get involved in (hosts/topics to be confirmed).

The event is aimed at parents / carers of children of all ages from 0 – 25 and with any kind of disability or special educational need.

The event will take place between 10am and 2pm on Thursday 3^rd November 2022 at Tickton Grange Hotel (Tickton, Beverley, HU17 9SH).

Tea, coffee, refreshments, and lunch will be provided for visitors. Free on-site parking is available.

Please book your place by the 14^th of October by emailing the Families Information Service Hub at FISH@eastriding.gov.uk or call us on (01482) 396469. Please let us know of any dietary requirements. We can also arrange childcare for your child/ren to enable you to attend, should you require it.

East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum (EYPCF)

“ EYPCF encourage all parent carers to complete the Annual Survey and are happy to support anyone needing help to do so. We also have paper copies if parent/carers prefer to complete this way. We have already had contact with several parent carers so please email admin@eypcf.co.uk if you would like support.”

Speech and Language Service – New referral Forms

This service has updated their referral forms to be more user friendly and accessible. The new layout allows the referral agent to provide more relevant information about the child/young person’s speech, language and communication needs as well as strategies and activities which have already been tried.

The referral forms can be found in the usual place on the Speech and Language Therapy website Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy (humber.nhs.uk) A link to this website can also be found from the ER Local Offer website.

There will be a video clip on the Speech and Language Therapy website coming soon demonstrating how to complete each section.

Parent Carer Survey

East Riding of Yorkshire Council and its partners would welcome the views of parents and carers who have accessed Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) services for their children and young people aged 0-25 who have an East Riding address. Portage Workshop

This is a certificated training course delivered by National Portage Association Accredited Trainers.

The Portage Workshop is an introduction to the Portage Approach to working with children with additional needs and their families. The workshop is suitable for early years practitioners who work in an early year's settings (PVI or maintained), Children's Centres, Childminders and parents/carers of children who are receiving Portage support.

Central to the course are the 'Portage Principles' and the 'Three Circle Model of Portage'. The NPA has set standards for minimum workshop content and length. The Workshop has a core curriculum consisting of seven modules and must last a minimum of 2 full days plus a Follow Up session.

The dates are 29 September 2022, 25 October 2022 and 22 November 2022, and the workshop will be held at Waffle 21, Colonial House, Swinemoor Lane, Beverley, HU17 0LS.

The Portage Workshop is free to East Riding parents and practitioners, a fee is payable of £200 to anyone wanting to access the workshop outside on the East Riding.

KIDS Community of Experience Event

KIDS has been commissioned by the Humber, Coast and Vale Keyworker Service to develop a 'Community of Experience' for all children and young people with a learning disability, autism or both, their families and carers.

They will be hosting the attached event on Monday 12 September 2022 at Beverley Leisure Centre, Flemingate, Beverley, HU17 0LT from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and this event will be open to parents and carers living in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
