East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum (EYPCF)

EYPCF virtual sessions Pop in coffee morning (Anlaby) – Tuesday 26 April – 10:30 – 12:30 (face-to-face) Trudy Cooper (Participation Co-ordinator) and PCF volunteers are hosting regular monthly pop in coffee mornings covering all areas around the East Riding. In April our coffee morning will be held in Anlaby on Tuesday 26 April 10.30 – 12.30 at Crafty Cat Events, 272 Hull Road, Anlaby Common, Hull, HU4 7RR. Refreshments will be provided, and parent/carers can also claim expenses from the PCF for travel etc. Also joining us at the coffee morning is Katie Catchpole from the SENDIASS Team and officer for the Anlaby area. We are looking forward to catching up and seeing you there.   Parent/carer consultation on the SEND Review (Green paper) – Virtual - Wednesday 4 May - 10.00-12.00   SEND Review - An update on the SEND Review and Green Paper The Secretary of State for Education has now published the SEND and Alternative Provision Green Paper for consultation. The PCF have scheduled a virtual meeting on Wednesday 4 May - Parent/carer consultation on the SEND Review (Green paper) 10.00-12.00 noon. This initial meeting will be to provide information on the proposals in the Green Paper, and consultation on responses from parent/carers. The PCF will be arranging further consultation meetings in May and hope to hold these face-to-face. If you would like to join any of the above events, please email admin@eypcf.co.uk. Your interest will be noted and any further details/virtual links etc will be sent nearer the time EYPCF SEND Week and AGM (Annual General Meeting) – 16 - 20 May  The EYPCF is organising a SEND Week, date for this week confirmed for 16 - 20 May. We are planning a week of SEND Information events for parent/carers but also activity-based sessions to make it a fun-filled and informative week. The EYPCF have spoken to partners in the LA, Voluntary Sector, Health, and Social Care who are all keen to be involved. Sessions will be both face-to-face and virtual and details of the SEND Week calendar will be shared widely once confirmed. The EYPCF AGM will take place in SEND Week on Wednesday, 18 May 10 -2 pm at Beverley Leisure Centre.  The AGM this year will be a Marketplace Information Day where our partners in the LA, Health, Social Care, Voluntary Sector and Support Groups have been invited to come along and share with parent/carers information on their individual services/groups and details of any planned events. We have already had an incredible response and are very much looking forward to getting everyone together. The PCF will be providing tea/coffee and a buffet style lunch for all that are able to attend. A formal invite with an agenda, annual statement of accounts and Trustees report will be sent out to all members after the Easter holidays with confirmed details of service/group involvement. Portage Workshop

This is a certificated training course delivered by National Portage Association Accredited Trainers. 

The Portage Workshop is an introduction to the Portage Approach to working with children with additional needs and their families. The workshop is suitable for early years practitioners who work in an early year’s settings (PVI or maintained), Children’s Centres, Childminders and parents/carers of children who are receiving Portage support. 

Central to the course are the ‘Portage Principles’ and the ‘Three Circle Model of Portage’.  The NPA has set standards for minimum workshop content and length.  The Workshop has a core curriculum consisting of seven modules and must last a minimum of 2 full days plus a Follow Up session.

Dates: 26 May, 16 June and 7 July 2022.

Venue: TBC but will be in Bridlington.

Priority will be given to parents/carers of children who live in the East Riding and receiving Portage and early years practitioners working in the East Riding.

Autism Seminar – Sensory Needs for Parents/Carers and Practitioners

We will be running a Sensory Needs Seminar at various locations and dates (see below)

Seminar Specific Information

The session is open to parents/carers and practitioners who would like to know more about Sensory Needs, including:

• To a get a better understanding of sensory processing.
• To explore how sensory differences may affect the child.
• To share strategies and approaches to help the child’s sensory needs.

The Seminar will run from 10am to 12.30pm. Please arrive no more than 10 minutes before the start of the session. Drinks are not provided.

Please provide your own pens and paper if you would like to take notes. Booklets to accompany the session are available from www.autism.org.uk should you wish to have one to refer to during the seminar (this is optional).

As the room will be well ventilated, please bring warm clothing.

0-25 SEND Team Pop-Up Pod - Pilot Launch Events

Are you wanting to know more information about how the 0-25 SEND Team can provide advice/information to families of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities within the East Riding?

Come along to one of the pop-up pods to meet members of the 0-25 SEND Team and to access information including:

• Support groups and services
• Charities and grants
• Local activities
• Preparing for Adulthood (PFA)
• Assistance on how to access FISH and the Local Offer
• Signposting to local organisations
