SEND Area Inspection 11th-15th October
The Inspection of East Riding of Yorkshire local area’s effectiveness in identifying and meeting the needs of, and improving outcomes for, children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) will take place from 11 October to 15 October 2021.
Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will carry out jointly, an inspection of the local area. The Children and Families Act 2014 places duties on the local health, social care and education services that provide for children and young people with SEND. The inspection will evaluate how effectively the local area:
- identifies the needs of children and young people with SEND
- meets the needs of these children and young people so that their outcomes and chances of participating fully in society improve.
A number of schools and settings will be visited as part of the Area SEND inspection, if your school or setting has been identified by the inspection team as one they wish to visit you will be contacted directly about this. The attached letter provides further information regarding the inspection process.

Please discuss requests with your Area SENCo, prior to submission and contact them for
support/guidance with all aspects of inclusion and/or SEND
Important note: Requests received after the published closing dates will not be considered until the following term.
Submitting Claims for AIS Funding
If AIS funding is awarded to a setting as a contribution towards costs associated with meeting the additional needs of a child/children attending the setting, a claim must be submitted to the Early Years Support Team at the end of each calendar month. Full details of the process and a template for this purpose are provided with the funding allocation letter. Claims may only be made for the total funding detailed in this letter.
Any change to the hours a child attends must be discussed with your Area SENCo at the earliest opportunity, to ensure that the correct amount of funding is available.
With effect from 1 September 2021, claims must be received by no later than the 15th of the month following the month to which the claim relates.
This is a change to the current process which does not stipulate a date for the submission of claims. The change has been necessary due to the number of claims received many months after the period to which they relate. This has an impact on our budget and the funding available to support other settings.
Portage Workshop - A Small Steps Approach to Learning for Children with SEND

Covid-19 Reporting: Changes to the Out of Hours Service
As always, we thank you for your continued support for the children and young people in the East Riding.
Following the changes to the reporting mechanisms and isolation guidance from the 16th August 2021, we have noticed a significant decrease in the number of call-backs requested by settings for positive cases of Covid-19.
We have therefore taken the decision that from Friday 1st October 2021, out of hours arrangements will cease and any setting requiring a call-back will receive one during office hours the following working day.
We still ask that settings use the online reporting form and Covid-19 Reporting Template as they have been doing to inform our Public Health colleagues of any cases to enable them to continue to have an overview of the area.
We will continue to monitor the situation
