Home to School Transport Survey - Children Families and Schools and Adults Services have worked in collaboration to refresh and update the Home to School and College Transport Policy. This refreshed policy covers available transport support for children and young people of compulsory school age, sixth form age and those young people post-19 with additional needs. The policy is now split into sections for each of these age categories to make it easier for families to navigate the support that is available to them. Children, young people and their families should not notice difference while using the home to school and college transport, but it is hoped that the refreshed policy is easier to understand. Ahead of approving and publishing this policy, we are consulting with all those with an interest in the policy, including parents of past, present and future users of home to school and college transport, and school and support staff. This survey is your invitation to view and comment on the proposed policy and should take no more than 5 minutes of your time. You can view the proposed policy by clicking on the link below to open the policy in a new window https://files.smartsurvey.io/2/0/4FU0H5ZR/SM257_HTST_Policy.pdf

Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Christmas Grant Programme - East Riding of Yorkshire Council are delighted to be taking part in the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) scheme during the School Christmas Holidays. HAF provides opportunities for children and young people aged 5-19 who are eligible for free school meals, to participate in fun engaging activities and holiday clubs in a safe environment. The food component of the scheme is designed to tackle holiday hunger by providing quality nutritious food and promote good health by increasing knowledge of nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices.
Applications are now open for organisations to apply for funding to run face to face and online holiday clubs and activities within the East Riding which meet the following aims as set out by the Department of Education:
As a result of this programme, we want children who attend this provision to:
- eat more healthily over the school holidays
- be more active during the school holidays
- take part in engaging and enriching activities which support the development of resilience, character and wellbeing along with their wider educational attainment
- be safe and not to be socially isolated
- have a greater knowledge of health and nutrition
- be more engaged with school and other local services
We also want to ensure that the families who participate in this programme to:
- develop their understanding of nutrition and food budgeting
- are signposted towards other information and support, for example, health, employment and education
East Riding Council are looking to host a wide range of activities across all areas of the county, including activities that are suitable for children and young people with additional needs.
Activities can be centred around sports/physical activities, crafts, arts and culture, play and games – or a combination! We also wish to provide some short online activity sessions (either interactive or pre-recorded) to accommodate families who may not be able to attend face to face sessions
There is an expectation that providers who run sessions for 4 hours or more provide a meal alongside the activity which complies with school meal nutritional guidance. Those running shorter programmes must provide healthy snacks and drinks.

Find out about fostering and how you can make a difference - East Riding of Yorkshire Council is looking to recruit new foster carers and supported lodgings providers, for children and young people.
Anyone interested in finding out more about becoming a foster family is invited to go along to an information event
Date: Tuesday 21 September
Time: 7pm (refreshments available at 6.30pm)
Venue: Driffield Rugby Club, YO25 9DW (next to Driffield Show Ground)
Experts from East Riding’s fostering service, including social workers, foster carers and children who are looked after will be at the event. It is a chance for potential foster carers to find out everything they need to know, including an opportunity to chat to those who are already fostering and gain first-hand insights into the role.
There will also be information about the excellent support package available to East Riding foster carers. This includes free membership to the gym and classes at East Riding Leisure centres for all members of the household; high quality training and access to qualifications; a generous allowance and annual loyalty payment; practical, social and emotional support; and regular free events exclusively for the council’s foster carers.
Some of the foster carers look after babies, children and young people on a long-term basis, while others provide short-term, emergency and respite care. They understand that every child is different and are committed to supporting the children and young people they care for to achieve their potential.
The council’s foster carers can make a real difference to the life of a child, providing them with stability, support and a safe and loving environment, where they can thrive and enjoy childhood.
Foster carers don’t need formal qualifications, they don’t need to live in the East Riding, to own their own home or have children of their own. They do need a spare room and the commitment to meet the needs of a child who needs help, care and support at a difficult time in their life.
To book your place or for further information contact (01482) 396673 or email: fostering@eastriding.gov.uk
