East Riding Archives Service Update

September 2021

We are delighted to announce some important changes to the East Riding Archives service from Monday 6th September 2021, along with a brand new online family history talk and this year's Heritage Open Day. Read on for more information.

Changes to the Archives Service

(from 6 September 2021)

 

Opening hours

Our opening hours are as follows:

  • 9.30- 5.00 Monday / Wednesday / Friday
  • 9.30- 8.00 Tuesday / Thursday
  • 9.00-4.00 Saturday

The research room will continue to be closed over lunchtime between 12.15 and 1.00 until further notice.

Appointments

Archives Card

Pre-booking your visit is essential.

Please email archives.service@eastriding.gov.uk or telephone 01482392792 to book an appointment to consult archives, use a public PC or microfiche/film reader.

If you do not have one already, please register for an Archives Card before your visit.

♦ Appointments for consulting archives, or using a microfiche/film reader

Appointments for consulting documents or using a microfiche / microfilm reader in the research room are now extended to morning, afternoon, evening (Tuesdays and Thursdays only), or full day sessions.

Please pre-order your documents by obtaining the finding numbers from our Online Catalogue, or by discussing your requirements with staff. 

♦ Appointments for using a public PC

2-hour appointment slots, pre-booking essential:

  • Monday / Wednesday / Friday: 10-12, 1-3, 2-4
  • Tuesday / Thursday: 10-12, 1-3, 2-4, 5-7
  • Saturday: 10-12, 1-3

 

Other facilities

Our public printer and photocopier will be available to use.

Cleaning stations will remain in place. Help yourself to hand sanitiser and cleaning spray. Staff will continue to disinfect each workspace after every use.

Tracing Your East Riding Ancestors in the Archives

Tracing Your East Riding of Yorkshire Ancestors in the Archives: Key Life Events (Online Talk)

Join Hannah Stamp, Archivist, in this online talk where she will describe how to find information about key life events of your East Riding ancestors. Using the collections at the East Riding Archives and other repositories, we will look at the records relating to births, baptisms, marriages, deaths, adoptions and divorce.

This talk will be of interest to family history beginners, those who would like an archival sources refresher, and anyone who is researching individuals who lived and worked in the historical East Riding of Yorkshire.

Edible England

Heritage Open Day: Edible England

Fun and free for all the family! This year the Treasure House will be open for visitors to discover the deliciousness of the collections and artworks to illustrate the theme of Edible England.

♦ Treasure House Tours (Booking essential), Saturday 11th September

To mark this year's theme of Edible England join us for face to face tours around the East Riding Archives Research Room and Conservation Workshop, Beverley Art Gallery and the Treasure House Museum. These tours will give visitors a taste of the fascinating foody stories served up in our collections. Book your free place.

♦ 'Tastes from the Past' display, from Friday 10th - Saturday 18th September 

In the East Riding Archives, our window display will showcase tastes from the past with historical recipes from the 1500s up to the Victorian period. 

♦ Children's Trail, from Friday 10th - Saturday 18th September 

Explore the Treasure House Museum and Beverley Art Gallery for culinary clues and discover ingredients that complete the fascinating historical recipes showcased by East Riding Archives.
