Visit East Yorkshire Tourism Update
With the relaxing of restrictions over the last couple of weeks, we hope those that have been able to open have been busy and enjoyed having visitors back. Hopefully you’ve all been able to enjoy a drink in the beer garden, lunch out and getting those much needed haircuts as well (we all certainly have). This week’s newsletter includes information on showing availability online, bookability, and VisitEngland’s Escape the Everyday campaign.
Just to say a little Thank you.
We know that one of our USPs here in East Yorkshire is the friendliness and kindness of the people who live & work here – visitors really value that & it keeps them returning again & again. We’ve benefitted from it ourselves too, with all the positive comments about our new website, our social media campaigns, and innovations such as our ‘Shop Local Online’ page and blog pages to read. So THANK YOU for all your feedback and contact.

Please check your junk!
We’ve been working to help Accommodation providers to show their availability on the visiteastyorkshire.co.uk website, by completing a quick survey and then giving us the ok to get in touch and get this sorted for you. We’re waiting on a couple of responses and would like to kindly ask those expecting to hear from us to check your junk mail and keep an eye out for an email from Barbara.lawrence.@eastriding.gov.uk.
Our web provider, Simpleview, work closely with several leading booking site providers to allow availability to also be viewed from the Visit East Yorkshire site too. Providers include: Booking.com, Expedia, Hotel Planner, Sykes Cottages, Eviivo, FreeToBook, Guestlink, Super Control and TXGB. If you’re an accommodation provider and would like to have your availability showing on the site, please complete this quick questionnaire.

Back to Basics
As the world begins to reopen again, we all want to make sure we have everything in order and are in the best shape to welcome back our visitors. One thing that can often slip our minds is checking all details are up to date in every place a business is featured, so we urge you to please take a few minutes to check your entry on the visiteastyorkshire.co.uk site and any other site you may be listed. Please check we have up to date high resolution images of the business (size should be at least 1220 x 713), all wording and prices are correct, check the correct social media accounts are linked, and email any changes you’d like to make to info@visiteastyorkshire.co.uk. Alternatively we can set up a login so you’re able to amend your entry whenever you need to.

Escape the Everyday… Responsibly
Be a part of Visit England’s campaign, Escape the Everyday… Responsibly, aimed to encourage people to escape the unique everyday that we are currently experiencing. It will inspire consumers to book a short break across the UK by showcasing the breadth of experiences available for them to escape to. As we move in to Step 2 of the road map, the campaign is to encourage responsible travel that makes a positive impact on local communities, see the website for how you can get involved.

VisitEngland’s Bookability and Tourism Distribution
Visit England have hosted a series of Business Recovery webinars, aimed at aiding businesses through the pandemic and with the prospect of reopening. In particular, their Bookability and Tourism Distribution, looking at what is meant by ‘bookable’ and potential sales channels, is very informative. The series is available to view on their website.

BEIS Coronavirus Fraud
We’ve been informed that a number of businesses have received a fraudulent letter purporting to be from BEIS stating that they need to purchase air purifiers as part of the requirements for reopening customers. The department has sent out a tweet stating that this is a scam and that businesses receiving such a letter should report this to Action Fraud.
If you have any specific enquiries about reopening your businesses as restrictions lift, please contact the Public Protection Covid Team on public.protection@eastriding.gov.uk.
