Next Stage Digital Economy Centres
The Digital Economy Theme funded six Next Stage Digital Economy Centres in 2020 to promote the realisation of impact and enhance exploitation of the outcomes arising from its investments in the research base. The centres will draw substantially on the outputs, knowledge, expertise and demonstrations resulting from previous DE-related funding to raise DE research to a new level of increased take-up and exploitation. The Digital Economy Theme intends to fund five NetworkPluses that will address the five Digital Economy Priority Areas. There will be a webinar on 27th May at 10:00 to discuss the funding opportunity. To attend, submit an expression of interest by 17th May 2021, 10:00 BST.

Application to Join REPHRAIN's College of Peer Reviewers
The EPSRC-funded Research Centre on Privacy, Harm Reduction and Adversarial Influence Online (REPHRAIN) are seeking to appoint a range of interdisciplinary reviewers to join REPHRAIN’s College of Peer Reviewers. The remit of the College will be to provide rigorous, quality reviews for all proposals submitted to the REPHRAIN Strategic Funding programme. Closing date: 15th April 2021, 16:00 BST.
New White Paper from REPHRAIN Centre
A new white paper has just been published by the REPHRAIN Practitioner-in Residence, Erik van de Sandt, titled “Towards Data Scientific Investigations: A Comprehensive Data Science Framework and Case Study for Investigating Organized Crime and Serving the Public Interest”. This white paper presents guiding principles and best practices for data scientific investigations of organized crime, developed and put into practice by operational experts over several years, while connecting to existing law enforcement and industry standards.

Digital Security by Design - Business Led Demonstrators: Phase One EOI
UK registered businesses can apply for a share of up to £6 million to collaborate on market demonstrator projects showcasing the use and adoption of digital security by design technologies. This funding is from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, deadline 26th May 2021, 11:00 BST.

Cross-cutting Research for Exascale Software and Algorithms
Launched as part of the SPF ExCALIBUR programme. Apply for funding to research issues that impact the development of exascale software and algorithms. This should address one of the following cross-cutting research themes:
- future computing paradigms
- coupling
- verification, validation and uncertainty quantification
- domain-specific languages
Deadline for proposals: 15th April 2021, 16:00 BST.
UKRI Fintech National Workshop: Hosted by AI for Services
UKRI is looking to advance their understanding of challenges faced by Fintechs and the Financial Services and the role research and innovation can place in addressing the challenges. A short survey (see here) has been launched to gather views on barriers to innovation, investment in, and adoption of Fintech solutions, and stakeholder views on how these might be overcome, deadline for completion is 19th April 2021 . A workshop will be held on Thursday 13th May 2021 to seek further input from a broad set of stakeholders across the Financial Services and Fintech ecosystem, if interested please complete an expression of interest by 26th April 2021.

UKRI Appoints National Quantum Computing Centre Director
Dr Michael Cuthbert has been appointed as National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) Director to help to deliver the UK’s ambition to be a quantum-enabled economy. The NQCC is being established with a £93 million investment by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) as part of the UK’s National Quantum Technologies Programme (NQTP).
AHRC Strengthens its Commitment to Responsible AI Technologies
AHRC strengthens its commitment to responsible AI technologies that wed ethical and human values to AI challenges. Building on the positive outcomes of its UKRI AI review, AHRC has partnered with the Ada Lovelace Institute on a suite of innovative AI projects that explore key facets of the most pressing AI challenges.
