Residents invited to help shape the future of East Surrey council
Residents across East Surrey are being invited to have their say on the future priorities of the new East Surrey council and help shape how services will be delivered from April 2027.
As preparations continue for the launch of the new council on 1 April 2027, long-term plans are being developed. These plans will guide the services provided, the investment made and the outcomes achieved for local people and communities.
You can take part through an online survey until Sunday 15 November.
A programme of local drop-in events will also take place across East Surrey.
Old Post Office building could be brought back into use
We are bringing forward plans to return the Old Post Office building on Esher High Street to productive use, supporting local businesses, jobs and town centre activity.
The prominent High Street property has been vacant since January 2025. Following an extensive open-market marketing exercise, the council has identified a preferred bidder who intends to occupy the building as office space.
The proposal would see a local business take a long-term lease of the building, creating a new base for employment in the town centre and helping to increase footfall for nearby shops, cafés and other local businesses
 Remembrance in Elmbridge - 8 November 2026
On this day we remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
Elmbridge Remembrance parades with road closures are due to take place on Sunday 8 November in:
- Claygate
- Cobham
- Esher
- Molesey
- Thames Ditton
- Walton-on-Thames
- Weybridge
There is also a Remembrance Day Parade taking place at Oatlands Park, starting from Oatlands Park Village Club at 9am.
Help shape the future of your local green space
We are exploring improvements to four local green spaces:
- Lower Green recreation ground, Esher
- Littleheath recreation ground, Cobham
- George Froude park, Walton
- Churchfields recreation ground, Weybridge
We would like to hear from local residents about how they use these spaces, what they enjoy about them and what they would like to see in the future.
Do you currently receive Council Tax Reduction, or support someone who does?
If you are on a low income or receive benefits, we want to hear your views on our Council Tax Reduction scheme consultation.
As we move towards the new East Surrey Council, we need to bring together the different Council Tax Reduction schemes currently operated by the district and borough councils to support residents.
Read our draft proposals for the future of the scheme in the new East Surrey Council and tell us what you think.
As part of the Council Tax Reduction Scheme consultation, residents across Surrey will be contacted directly by SMS and email using GOV.UK Notify, the government’s secure messaging service.
If you receive a message, it is a genuine council communication and is not spam. It will include information about the consultation and how you can have your say.
Feedback from the consultation will be considered before final decisions are made.
Go to the dedicated consultation page or visit your local council offices to find out more and complete the survey. Accessible versions are available.
Deadline: 3 December 2026
Family fun this October half term
We are delighted to offer free and low-cost creative activities for families again this October half-term.
Children can get hands-on with arts, crafts and play sessions designed to keep them entertained.
Our activities provide a fun opportunity for children to get creative, try something new and spend time with family and friends during the half-term break.
Elmbridge to begin work on new Local Plan
We are beginning to prepare a new Local Plan, as required under the government’s new planning system. While local government reorganisation is underway, Elmbridge remains the local planning authority and must meet these legal requirements.
Starting now will help build a strong evidence base for the borough’s future and give local communities the opportunity to have their say.
