Elmbridge news
Flood Action Week - 12 to 18 October
Flooding can happen anytime, and with climate change driving more extreme weather, it's vital to know what to do in a flood.
In England there are around 6.3 million properties in areas at risk of flooding. Climate change continues to increase the likelihood and severity of flood events. Between April 2025 and March 2026 alone, the Environment Agency issued over 3,400 flood alerts, over 1,000 flood warnings, and 3 severe flood warnings to people at risk.
It is more important than ever that every person knows their flood risk and what actions can be taken to prepare and stay safe should the worst happen.

Help shape the future of your local green space
We are exploring improvements to three local green spaces:
- Lower Green recreation ground, Esher
- Littleheath recreation ground, Cobham
- George Froude park, Walton
We would like to hear from local residents about how they use these spaces, what they enjoy about them and what they would like to see in the future.
 Annual canvass - home visits
Every year, we check the electoral register is up to date. We’ve almost finished our checks for this year. If you’ve not already responded, we might visit you at home to check your details.
Council staff will wear photo ID for visits. If you want to check their identity, contact us on 01372 474474.
Do you currently receive Council Tax Reduction, or support someone who does?
If you are on a low income or receive benefits, we want to hear your views on our Council Tax Reduction scheme consultation.
As we move towards the new East Surrey Council, we need to bring together the different Council Tax Reduction schemes currently operated by the district and borough councils to support residents.
Read our draft proposals for the future of the scheme in the new East Surrey Council and tell us what you think.
As part of the Council Tax Reduction Scheme consultation, residents across Surrey will be contacted directly by SMS and email using GOV.UK Notify, the government’s secure messaging service.
If you receive a message, it is a genuine council communication and is not spam. It will include information about the consultation and how you can have your say.
Feedback from the consultation will be considered before final decisions are made.
Go to the dedicated consultation page or visit your local council offices to find out more and complete the survey. Accessible versions are available.
Deadline: 3 December 2026
Family fun this October half term
We are delighted to offer free and low-cost creative activities for families again this October half-term.
Children can get hands-on with arts, crafts and play sessions designed to keep them entertained.
Our activities provide a fun opportunity for children to get creative, try something new and spend time with family and friends during the half-term break.
Elmbridge to begin work on new Local Plan
We are beginning to prepare a new Local Plan, as required under the government’s new planning system. While local government reorganisation is underway, Elmbridge remains the local planning authority and must meet these legal requirements.
Starting now will help build a strong evidence base for the borough’s future and give local communities the opportunity to have their say.
