Elmbridge news
What’s next for the new East and West Surrey Councillors?
The newly elected councillors are not yet responsible for running council services. Their sole focus is preparing the new East and West councils to take over on 1 April 2027.
This is an essential task to make sure that services continue without disruption during the transition. To reflect this, the newly elected councillors will be called 'shadow councillors' for the next year.
Shadow councillors will become full councillors and take on responsibility for all local services from 1 April 2027.
Your existing county, district and borough councillors remain responsible for all council services until 1 April 2027. They will still be your contact for any questions you have about council services.
We apologise for incorrectly issued parking fines and will refund customers
We apologise to residents because of a procedural error, some parking fines (Penalty Charge Notices – PCNs) were issued incorrectly in Elmbridge council car parks from 2020 onwards. We sincerely apologise for this mistake and want to reassure everyone affected that a clear refund process will be introduced so that fines issued incorrectly can be paid back.
Customers who received a parking fine may be eligible for a refund. The refund process will open in June and we will make it as simple as possible to seek a refund.

In March, representatives from over 100 repair cafés visited Parliament to speak with MPs about the importance of repair and reuse, calling for stronger action to make repairs easier and more affordable. Elmbridge has two repair cafés that help residents fix items instead of throwing them away:
-
Oxshott Repair Café: every third Saturday of the month from 10am to 12.30pm (excluding August and December) at St Andrew’s Church Hall, KT22 0LE.
-
Walton‑on‑Thames Repair Café: every second Saturday of the month from 10am to 1pm at Walton Centre for the Community, KT12 2PB. Booking is required.
